Short Trip To Wagener S.C.

Wednesday, December 28th, 2005

Wagener is one of the many small towns in S.C. that time and progress have passed by. This is not a bad thing. It leaves the town as it was, for the most part, fifty years ago. Small towns are fun to ride through and stop in. For me finding that “local” restaurant that serves good simple food,

Well Alan C. and I headed that way via Batesburg-Leesville, two small towns very close to one another, hence the hyphenated name. Well they prefer to be called by their own name but, I remember when there was only one phone book for both and it was labeled, “Batesburg-Leesville”.

We went through Batesburg-Leesville on to Wagener and back to Batesburg-Leesville to stop in at the Triumph dealer there. They were closed for the holidays and so we headed back to Alan’s house. It was a short 100 mile trip but, it was enjoyable to get out and ride.

December Trip to KY

Monday, December 19th, 2005

Time for the yearly Christmas get-together with my wife’s family in Monticello, KY. My wife suggested we take a different route than usual. We took I-26 out of S.C. and picked up I-40 in Asheville N.C. The section between Asheville and Knoxville, TN is a blast to ride on the bike and we thought it would be equally fun in the Miata, and it was.

The different part of the route was taking Hwy 127 out of Crossville, TN to Hwy 90 and then on to Somerset KY. This takes you right through Pall Mall TN, home of Sgt. Alvin York, a World War I hero. The return trip was more of the same, just in reverse order.

This road was fun in the car, I can’t wait to repeat the trip on the motorcycle!
