Man. That Carl sure can rant!

Well shit. It's not like it's rocket science.

Request for a new IP on x.x.x.x subnet.

1. Bring up new system and look for an available IP in the subnet. Found it.
2. Bring up old system 1 and verify. Not there.
3. Bring up old system 2 and verify. Not there.
4. Bring up old spread sheet 1 and verify. Not there.
5. Bring up old spread sheet 2 and verify. Not there.
6. Ping IP. No response.
7. dig IP (or nslookup IP if you're old school). No response.

Okay, it's likely the IP isn't in use. Update new application with information. Here you go.

And the folks consolidating the tools should move the information from old spreadsheet 1 into the new system and delete the spreadsheet (or archive it or mark it read-only).

Honestly. It's really not all that hard.

Carl

I think I have a better understanding of rocket science ;)

People selling things that think it reasonable to *raise* the price in their ad, after I've responded to it

I'm looking for a TTR125L.  New price is $3500.  No, I don't care how "premium condition" your 8 year old dirt bike is in - it is not worth $2300....  The $1950 it was showing when I responded was a little high too, but at that point there seemed a chance of making a deal!

Add to this people who make arrangements to show you their bike the next day, and then send you this message at 11pm:
"Hey sorry to say but someone showed up a half hour ago with full asking price in cash so the bike is gone "

 :willy:

Asshole...

So you lost a possible deal.
Why is he an asshole?  :headscratch:
Did you make him a formal offer or just said you'd come by to see it?
He got his price, sold it to the highest interested buyer and was nice enough to tell you not to show up.

IMO an asshole would'nt have bothered to call you. A bigger asshole wouldn't have shown up to meet you.
Ride safe!

  it's a business deal, unless you gave him $$ to hold it first one with cash in hand takes it home.

Note to potential motorcycle buyer:  If you're going to email me asking if I'd be willing to accept payments over a period of time, have a period of time in mind when I contact you.

Who said logic needed to be part of my ranting ;)

Part of the frustration being the pain-in-the-ass factor of trying to buy something used.  Over-priced, thrashed, several year old dirt-bike - check.  Jerks who don't ever respond to your query, don't ever take down their ad, etc. - check.  People who can't meet with you at a reasonable time in the evening, then sell it to someone else in the middle of the night - check.

No, I don't want to pay next-to-new price for something that has sat in someone's garage for several years, and I don't care *where* your "wife rode it twice", and I *am* a girl! I am fully aware that "lady driven" is not necessarily a GOOD selling point :P

:willy: all the things you wish you could say to the people posting their crap for sale on the internet...

 :P

Besides, isn't it *obvious* that the biggest reason he's an asshole is because he didn't spontaneously decide to give the bike to me as a gift!?!?!?!

My day just got even better. Its the little things. Right Bomber?

What was the question?
Feels like I've been here before, fuzzy then but still so obscure........

  I am fortunate as well, if things in the office start to get on my nerves there is always 2600 miles of power line that need to be "inspected"  and I'm happy to go out and take a look  ;D

S'trooth, Cookie . . . .

paid for motorcycles, fun to be had, new music . . . . .

AND a hammock . . . can't forget upright humankind's second best invention!
We had two bags of grass, 75 pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers... Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls. Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.

Shit, when you stop being nice to the incompetent people and show them the door?
Carl

You don't, by any chance, work at a government agency?
What do you mean I have to go back to work?
