If there wasn't such a thing as the Triumph Tiger 800, I would likely own a F700GS.  It's my sort of bike - utilitarian, capable, and mid-sized.  That said, I haven't ever tested one, so they could be shitty - but I doubt it.  It seems like the engine gets mixed reviews, though it does seem to return excellent mileage.

It's a lot more capable bike than the CBR 250.

I'm pretty excited about it in theory.  The F650GSs have always been some of my favorite bikes ( ) and while I'm not really sure that the extra 50cc makes a huge difference (probably does for marketing reasons) I'm just thrilled that the concept of a mid-sized adventure bike continues to exist.  I'd love to ride one someday and compare it to the 2009 F650GS twin I had.

Yeah, I had both a F650GS thumper ( ) and a F650GS twin.

So the F700GS twin is the same bike as the F650GS twin, which was the same bike as the F800GS twin but was a different bike than the F650GS single so they renamed that the G650GS?  Yeah, that's not confusing.

Thanks for the pic of your GF -- I'm 5'1" as well so that helps.  It looks like my biggest problem with the F650GS twin might still be a problem, though, which was the reach to the bars.  My arms were almost completely straight (as it looks like hers are) and I got a nasty case of tennis elbow after just a couple of thousand miles. 

Ah well, I'll stick with my Ninjette and look at pretty pictures of pretty red Beemer dual sports.

Well the CBR is listed and my new F700 has been located. Once the CBR is sold I'll be picking up the BMW.

We're in Vegas right now and Rue is renting an F700GS for a little ride.  Actually about a 2K mile ride.  I'll let you know her impressions.

I'm sticking with my GSA; putting my F800S and possibly the Madass up for sale in the spring.  The GSA and DD750 should hold me for a while.

This is a consignment bike with less that 300 miles on it.  She'd been eyeing it for a month or so, and when we drove down to Morton's yesterday (in the snow!) she pulled the trigger, somewhat to my surprise.  It's a lowered version - with the stock seat she can nearly flat-foot it which suits her fine. 

Looks like we've got a break in the weather next week so we'll ride down there to fetch it.

 

I hear that the little Beemer has some reliability problems.

So what farkles do you have on yours?  Rue's comes with a Cee Bailey windscreen which should work just fine. It also has the side racks for the black plastic briefcase-style Vario cases which I'm not keen on.  I also want to treat her to some engine guards; looking at the SW-Motechs.

Another set of crash bars I'm looking at are the Wild@Heart version.

I chatted with F800 Depot and they advised these will fit the F700GS too.

The Nuda 900 is so far from a Husky version of the F650/700/800 to make any direct comparison meaningless.  Everything from the bore, stroke, compression, crank, etc... Has been changed.  And the Nuda is a large supermoto or standard, whereas the BMW is an adventure bike, especially the 800 version.  The F800R, which was dropped, would be a closer march, but before selling off Husky BMW gave the Nuda the warmed over motor knowing it was going to be a more niche bike.

Got my GSA out and rode Rue down to Morton's yesterday to pick up her bike.  They were short-staffed so the owner wound up completing the transaction.  If the weather's good this weekend we'll take a joyride.

I agree and as soon as I save up a few more dollars I'll be adding another set of Motolights to the front calipers. I had a set on the FJR and they were awesome.

We've been driving past Morton's alot lately.  Just not when they've been open.  Its always been really early on Saturday morning heading down to Virginia Beach house hunting, then again coming home on Sunday.  We're doing the same thing again this weekend.
