who in Canada rode today?
« on: March 10, 2015, 01:03:12 PM »
I keep seeing the "who rode today" thread in region 4 and want to post, so I am starting a thread for us Canucks. I've been riding for a month now...and am just about to take off on the Guzzi. It's supposed to hit 20c today, so I am heading up Kaslo way...may do 31A for the first time this year...or may just go for lunch somewhere up there. Oh yeah, I forgot about how good the food was at the Kaslo Hotel when we did the Banff Run last year. I think I am going there!  I love not having a plan other than "thataway" . LOL.
 Catch you all later.

I'm going for a ride today but it won't be in Canada.

I just did the New Denver-Kaslo loop, and back to Castlegar. About 275km, and 3.5 hours. It was damp and gravelly in spots, especially 31A, but I had the road to myself. It's pretty cool having snow on both sides of the road while you are riding through on dry pavement. There was literally one vehicle driving between Kaslo and New Denver, two fishing on the ice on Bear Lake or Stump Lake or whatever the official name is, and one highways truck parked with an empty sled or quad trailer behind it.
The woman at the grocery store in New Denver where I topped up (premium, no ethanol) said I was the first bike she had seen come through this year...but it is very passable, so I am pretty sure someone else has snuck by her...lol.
It is 20c here in town. It was 11C here when I left, 6c in Slocan when I stopped for my breakfast pretzel by the lake on the way up, and I think the coolest I saw was 3c up top. All in all a great little ride.
Edit: the Kaslo Hotel doesn't open until 3 pm, and the Dock and Duck is closed Tuesdays...so I ended up riding home for a steak sandwich at Cartwright's...so much for destination meals! LOL

Today was the first day this year with above freezing temps. If it keeps up, we may ride next week.

Going for a burn over a small pass on the Stelvio today, to pick up some Buell gaskets, and enjoy a white chocolate mochaccino at a destination coffee shop. It's a great year...I've been riding over a month now. I will post my traditional pic in front of the coffee shop. LOL

I just got back from my first "KLR errand ride" of the season!  Gorgeous, sunny, 14'C.  We are having quite the abnormal spring in Calgary!  ZED has commuted via KLR twice this week.

I had a nice ride, got my parts, drank my mochaccino, and met up with my girlfriend for a nice ride through a bunch of the local back roads...and we didn't touch the highway all the way home. All in all a very nice day....and now it's off to work for the weekend while the rest of you get to ride.

It was wet but not currently raining when I rode to work this morning, but big wet flakes started coming down this afternoon! It is barely sticking, but the snow line is right down above town at the moment, and it was a sloppy ride home from work! :)  This was a good test of my helmet setup, and it failed miserably...I am going to have to get a spare visor set up for wet and nasty riding.

Plus 4 today, and dry road!
It's been 15 weeks in the deep freezer...
Filled the tires, did a quick walk around and powered up.
Three compression cycles and bang she goes!
Bellissima!!
Here comes ridin' season!

I've been riding pretty much every day for the last seven weeks...it's a great year for riding. I just hope the forests aren't too dry to ride in this summer! Planning to haul a dirt bike out tomorrow, unless I get very lost in the woods on the Stelvio first. It's definitely going to be an offroad kind of day...

I was -1C this morning...first day with frost here. Now it's 6C...off to find some lunch and a nice road or two. I have a few more weeks of insurance on the Stelvio, and then I will ride my DR or the Buell until the snow stays. This has been a very nice October!

If the weather trend stays like it is, we may not have any snow staying until Christmas...
