I just did the New Denver-Kaslo loop, and back to Castlegar. About 275km, and 3.5 hours. It was damp and gravelly in spots, especially 31A, but I had the road to myself. It's pretty cool having snow on both sides of the road while you are riding through on dry pavement. There was literally one vehicle driving between Kaslo and New Denver, two fishing on the ice on Bear Lake or Stump Lake or whatever the official name is, and one highways truck parked with an empty sled or quad trailer behind it.
The woman at the grocery store in New Denver where I topped up (premium, no ethanol) said I was the first bike she had seen come through this year...but it is very passable, so I am pretty sure someone else has snuck by her...lol.
It is 20c here in town. It was 11C here when I left, 6c in Slocan when I stopped for my breakfast pretzel by the lake on the way up, and I think the coolest I saw was 3c up top. All in all a great little ride.
Edit: the Kaslo Hotel doesn't open until 3 pm, and the Dock and Duck is closed Tuesdays...so I ended up riding home for a steak sandwich at Cartwright's...so much for destination meals! LOL
