Ewan McGregor rode LiveWire from Argentina to Los Angeles
« on: February 01, 2020, 09:58:21 AM »
Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman have finished their third riding adventure, having ridden a pair of electric Harley-Davidson LiveWires up through the Americas.

The route took them from Ushuaia, Argentina, to Los Angeles, California. The trip finished in a similar fashion to previous journeys with an invite-only group ride of local riders.

Not again.   It was from Sept ('19) - Jan.
Ewan was on Jimmy Fallon last night.

This is my cynical breaking point on electric motorcycles:  "For much of the journey they were followed by petrol and diesel-powered vehicles, which ferried battery packs around to keep the bikes topped up."  It appears that they only managed 150 or 300 miles a day.

Agreed.

I have lost a bit of respect for the guy's with this trip. Looks like it will turn into a multi episode commercial for Harley.. These trips are supposed to be adventures. I know even on the other episodes they had a huge support system but this trip could not have been done without it. The others were doable on their own, without the support if they truly wanted to attempt it. I have no problem with the live wire. I actually commend Harley on going against the grain. But this bike is not what they should have used. A couple Himalayan would have been a more respectable choice over the live wire.

If they didn’t break down every 15 minutes, it’s a big win for H-D.

Swapping batteries from the gas powered support vehicles is like taking a golf cart through your marathon. It invalidates literally everything about the so-called accomplishment.

And seriously, did anyone think a short range, long-charge-time electric vehicle was ever the right tool for this job?

No. No one with any actual intelligence would ever think that.

This was a ride-the-fame, sellout publicity stunt. Nothing more.

Moving on.

Did they swap batteries or the entire bike?  I know their support vans had additional bikes for the longer stretches.

And the Rivian pickups? Are they really ready for this type of trek or was there a platoon of factory support?
