I got a Sena 20S Evo and installed it in the helmet. The sound quality is adequate, but there remains the wind noise...especially if going over 40.
I used to use earbuds to listen to music, with the earbud serving as both hearing protection and speaker. Since Sena doesn’t make a Sena-to-headphone jack adapter (letting you remove the helmet speakers and use the shielded audio port to plug in), I see two basic options:
1. Use hearing protection adequate to prevent hearing damage without seriously compromising sound quality.
2. Modify the helmet to better block out wind noise.
I haven’t picked out a new helmet yet, and there’s no guarantee that what I buy will do the job in this area even if it’s better than what I have now.
I tested with Quiet Contour foam ear plugs (WalMart). Noise reduction rating (NRR) of 33 dB. Definitely protects but sound is muffled while testing indoors.
I then tested Plugfones Guardian In-Ear Earplug Earbud Hybrid - Noise Reduction In-Ear Headphones I got from Amazon (
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00RW1R81E/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). Removing the rubber tips and using them (have hole where earbud is attached, music quality was good, but no idea how much hearing protection it provides.
I could try better suited earplugs, but I don’t know what to look for.
Examining the helmet, the cheek pads have nothing directly over my ear canals...I question if I could install padding here to block wind noise (see photo).
