Thanks for the kind words :bigok:
On the mend not the meds and feeling a lot better today.

Wife and Kids had a great christmas, guess they understood where I was coming from. Turns out my lovely little (she is rather short) wife  :inlove:, had been doing a heck of a lot of christmas shopping and keeping it hidden.

Thanks again

She's a keeper. And glad to hear you are feeling better. Stay on those antibiotics...take them ALL. No shortcuts.

Glitter.
That most malignant, persistant and insidious invention that a deviant mind could devise.
BOTH grand-daughters (2 and 4.5)showed up Christmas Day in pretty little frocks that shed silver glitter throughout the house.
It now infests EVERY room, crack and crevice in my home, including rooms that the girls didn’t visit.
Non-biodegradable, I’ve found it in the dog’s backyard leavings.
Remaining unsold stocks, and the people who produce and flog it should be fired into the heart of the sun.

The only real reason that glitter should exist in nature is to notify wives that their husband went to the strip club. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it's the only ACCEPTABLE reason.

You’re not right.

I thought it was a good idea myself, my fucktard co-"worker" insists on leaving his cats hair all over the office, chairs and our work truck. A little glitter down the defroster is minimal compared to that.

not really a rant as I appreciate the concern, but...  I'm fine being alone on Christmas! quit worrying about me, I'm a big boy.. The kids were in Omaha (at ex-wife's family) for Christmas and my bride went to her parents alone because I had to work until 11:00 on Christmas eve and be back at work at 7:00 this morning. So, everyone is having a fit about me being alone "are you sure you'll be OK?", "you want me to stay home?", "can't you just drive across the state one day and back the next?", "it's sounds sooo lonely Dad?" etc.  In reality it was pretty nice. went up to our local ski hill when I got off work Christmas eve, then met some friends at Texas Roadhouse (apparently the only place open) for a few beers when I got back to town. Christmas day I slept in a little, did a load of laundry and made breakfast before heading back to the ski hill where I met up with a co-worker and his family for a day of skiing followed by a few beers at the dark horse ( https://www.facebook.com/TheDarkHorseSaloonatTerryPeak/ ). then home to watch a movie and went to bed early... not a bad Holiday at all........but I thank them for their concern..

Families. Ammirite?

Same thing here. Daughter came by yesterday to pick up some stuff. I had gone to check the mail and then walked down a couple of doors to talk to a couple of neighbors. It was chilly and started sprinkling so we stepped inside his open garage. I missed her pulling into our driveway so she had about 10 minutes before I noticed her out on the driveway looking around. In that time, she'd gone through the whole the house looking for me (mentioning that she looked in every room and closet paying special attention to floors I might be laying on).

I love her and her concern but when people go to "he's fallen and can't get up" as the first possibility, then... Ugh.

I think that's just a natural reaction, regardless of whether or not you're a cantankerous old cuss.

We had some (younger than me) folks arrive unusually late for Christmas dinner because they slept in - no call because their phone had died - and my first thought was they were in a horrundous traffic accident.

Lately I've been trying to remember that being angry is like punishing yourself for someone else's mistake. Putting that into practice is HARD, but it sure makes life a lot less stressful.

It's amazing how many such people get elected to public office.  The better ones still do the work to learn about what they're enacting. The lesser ones seem to believe that winning the election means that they are the smartest and most well-liked person around.

Took my 50s-era Leak tube-based power and pre-amp in because it lost a channel. Set there a month and, after one call, they told me it was ready. Got it home and set up. 30 minutes later, I lost the channel again. I'm pretty confident they used their tube tester to replace the bad tube and never bothered to look for the reason it was happening.

Called around and found a place that will go through the entire 2 chassis and swap whatever needs swapping to bring it up to "the best it can be" using modern "or equal" parts as needed. They can get to it in March. And I'm wanting to listen to my Xmas gift from my brother: a 5 LP (heavy vinyl) remastered, 50th anniversary, Woodstock boxed set.

Kids is bars, WTF? why is it for some reason people think a brewery should double as a day care? The reason I went out for a beer is to talk to other adults, not have a bunch of screaming kids and poorly behaved dogs running amok. After a brief "correction" from my wife about my attitude I finished my beer and left.
Fast forward a couple days and I stop for a beer at the lodge while skiing. This is not the main lodge, which has areas for eating their food, eating your own food, and a large bar area. this is the little lodge on the other side of the hill that has a small seating area for their food or your food, or whatever and a bar side. The bar side used to have a sign that said you must be 21, I see that is now gone. so we have families sliding all the tables together and "saving a place" for every one in their party, including infant to teens,  Whether they are in attendance or not? being no place else to sit and enjoy my beverage I took an unoccupied chair at one of "their" unoccupied tables and was immediately informed that those are "saved". I informed them when I see a warm body I'll move until then I'm staying right here. Eventually a seat opened at the bar and I moved there. They guy next to me was laughing at my previous experience and went on his own tirade about being told to watch his language because "my children are in here" I thought his reply was perfect: "maybe you shouldn't have your F&*^ing kid in the F&^%ing bar if you don't want him exposed to bad F*&^ing language". Or maybe I'm just getting to be a crabby old bastard?

Huge pet peeve of mine. I let the establishment know exactly why I want my check "as fast as you can get it so I can get the hell out of here", too.

My kids never acted like little fucking animals at places because we parented them. Or we just didn't take them places where adults were being adults.

Take your kids to a family restaurant, like Applebee's or Red Robin or Outback. You can still get a beer there if you're that hard up.

Go be a grown up at grown up places.

It's ok to that they don't overlap.

IT'S FUCKING PREFERRED THAT THEY DON'T OVERLAP!

I took my car to a 'service center' for an oil change.
I usually do the maint. on all my vehicles, but it's 40 degs out and the ground is wet and I'm not fully recovered from my accident...
Their sign says 'oil change $23.  Does not include filter or premium oil".   Who (TF) changes oil w/o the filter??
I told them the car takes synthetic blend oil.
After an hour (from when my appointment was - I got there 10 mins prior) they tell me it's done, and $60!
WTF?!?  They put in, and charged $30 for, synthetic oil. Full, not blend.
They took off $15...

I have on occasion if it's crazy cold in the garage.  The oil filter is good for 10-15000 miles.  I swap out oil at 5k and could really push that out if I wanted to, but the Fumoto drain valve makes the oil change without a filter a 3 minute affair, with no tools.

I always change the filter on the bikes though.

That's the historical nature of taverns. A community gathering place.

Yes a gathering place is what a tarven is, although kids have no place being in a bar.

Here comes the old bastard in me: When I was a kid we knew or quickly learned not to act up or make a scene. I do remember being at the officers club at Moffett Field and did something (don't remember now) well my parents would have none of it at the officers club, I spent the rest of the evening in the car waiting for them to finish dinner (I got none). Never made that misstep again.

Something has changed in what is expected of kids and parents. I see parents caving into their kids every wish hoping to not offend or emotionally scar them.  The hard part is once they grow up they are going to expect the world will coddle them as well, and the world is not as nice as they are expecting....  and it's the parents fault for not setting the ground rules.
Freedom without regulations that protect the general good is nothing less than anarchy by the rich.

I don't think most of them understand that these days.

I have to agree that for the most part kids don’t belong in bars, yet one of my fondest memories is going to a dark Irish bar with my grandfather and my uncle (who had just returned from the South Pacific in 1945), I was not yet five and felt very proud to sit between them at the bar. Nobody seemed to mind, least of all the bartender.

Maybe there are different social norms for special occasions and lifestyle practices.

I too remember my Grandfather walking with me to the corner gin mill, every other Saturday afternoon. He bought me a birch beer, a bag of chips, and his buddies gave me a couple of dimes to play the bowling machine. I sat at a table enjoying my soda and chips and he enjoyed an hour with his drinking buddies away from the women.

For me, the issue of kids in bars revolves around the disruptive behavior of certain kids and the entitlement practiced by their parents.

Did they use an impact to install the drain plug and bugger the threads? It's actually pretty common.
A plan is just a list of things that doesn't happen.

They should have never lowered the drinking age or the voting age for that mater.  Things kind of went off the rails when they did.  Time to move it back up to 21 or even 45 or 50.

Umm, drinking age is 21.  Age to buy tobacco and vape products is going back to 21 also.  Since you can be in the military at 18, I'm good with them having the vote at that age.

Kinda -- They should should be able to vote, drink, smoke and vape when they are in the military.

As a reformed military drinker, 21 is a good age to be legal and 30 would be better.  I'm sure it's not the same anymore, but drinking was a secondary profession while I served.

?  21 to drink and smoke now and forever.  I’d love to see smoking eliminated and I’m a 25 year, 2+ pack a day ex-smoker.  It’s one of the nastiest, health destroying things you can do to your body.  It took me over two years to shake the effects on my well being.

18 then and now for voting and it can stay that way.

Edit:  I’m pretty sure most military bases have banned smoking at this point in time.

Maybe there are different social norms for special occasions and lifestyle practices.

It's more a regional thing. NE often holds on to "old world" traditions like the village gathering place that the "Bible Belt" can find "shocking".

Umm, drinking age is 21.  Age to buy tobacco and vape products is going back to 21 also.  Since you can be in the military at 18, I'm good with them having the vote at that age.

All of this stuff is based on what's called "the age of accountability" and is an "average" age of when people "typically" are "adults" and can be held accountable for their actions (including signing contracts, etc.). This scattered AoA deal is at the root cause of the problem. They're an adult for ALL things or they're not. If you bump the age of some things to 21, bump them all. Watch the screaming and gnashing of teeth by businesses and politicians when their target audience evaporates overnight every time they move the AoA for 1 thing (and all things move). No voters, no canon fodder for endless wars, no customers for loans, no younger drivers (who would also have to wait to 21 to get a learner's permit).

Kids is bars, WTF? why is it for some reason people think a brewery should double as a day care?

That's the historical nature of taverns. A community gathering place.

This works well at lunch time.  After 5:00 leave the kids at home or go to another type of establishment.

Michigan raised the drinking age back to 21 sometime in the 80s I guess.

1978.  I was just turning 18 when it dropped and turned 21 just before it went back.   ;D   There was drinking in the high school parking lot as some of us were already 18 before graduating.

If parents can bring their children to bars then we should be able to bring strippers to Chuck-E-Cheese.
