Alabama Gang
« on: December 14, 2013, 08:01:25 PM »
Hi Y'All,

I think I got that right. ;D  I have been in Huntsville a couple of times and it seems like a really nice place.  So, what is the pros and cons of living in Alabama?

I know that Barber is about 2 hours down the road, but what else can you tell me about the area?

Thanks, for the info.

Never been but, I've read that Huntsville is close to where the Appalachian Mountains start so, that's gotta be good for motorcycle riding  :)

We use a machine/fabrication shop in Guntersville, just a bit southeast of Huntsville. Over the past 10 years I've been there at least twice a year for several days at a time. I could live there.

Pros: Ride year round, cheap cost of living, pretty close to some dang good riding, stones throw from Heaven (AKA Barber Motorsports Park), good barbeque is readily available

Cons:  Occasional backwoods idiot or ghetto idiot encounter (less of an issue in Huntsville than in other parts of the state).  But idiots of all sorts abound in this country, so you're never safe.  It gets nasty hot in the summer, which can take a lot of the fun out of riding.

I almost got T-Boned in a rental while in downtown Huntsville the last time I was there.  But besides that it seems like a nice place.  I do understand that it does get a bit toasty in the summer.

Had some friends that lived in Huntsville for 8-10 years.  Everything seemed great except for (what seemed to me) to be an incredible amount of severe severe weather.  Crazy skies, tornados, that kind of thing.

Of course, I'm in Michigan...not much weather drama around here.  Maybe Alabama isn't any different than many places.

Alabama in the summer.  What could be more miserable?  I guess Mississippi.
