I did a 5K this spring with my son, and started running more after that. I was doing around 6 miles a week. Not much, but I HATED every second of it. I ended up quitting sometime early summer.
Since then, my wife and I have started biking. I like that WAY better. Now I know.
To me ya just need to figure out what is the least painful (or most enjoyable) for you- and go with it. Exercise is good.
That said, she had major foot surgery last Monday and is down for ~6 months. She had an extra bone in her foot and exercise was getting increasingly painful, so we finally opted to get it done. It will be worth it to have her pain free!
