Thanks all for the moral support and guidance. I was really stumped on this one.

Dammit. Took it for a proper test run and it broke down after a mile or so. Battery completely flattened. Charging it up, so I can get the little bike back home.

Parts of the wiring are a bit messy from the previous owner. I gave it a "new" loom and that's fine, I rewired the rear part of the wiring. It looks like I'll have to rewire the electrics to the alternator, maybe replace the rectifier and check the alternator is putting out juice.

Oh man. :( Best of wishes. On the upside, you're working through it systematically, and when you're done, you should have a well running machine in which you can have confidence.

Not a patch on your woes. It's only a motorcycle.

Bought new battery and charged it. Back to the bike-blown fuse. Replace fuse. No go. Found a short. Fixed it. It started. Got to within 200 yards of home and it stopped. Blown fuse.

New CDI. No difference.

New regulator and wiring. an improvement.

New fuse box. No change.

Right now, the turn lights are operating very fast. New flasher relay last year, but mebbe is fecked after a long winter of neglect by my ex-friend Clive.

Just the flasher relay and one other thingy to check.

Starts on the button, but I don't trust it. It'll blow a fuse if I take it out.

Do you have good and multiple ground wires?  I had a chronic fuse blowing problem that was related to poor grounding.

Got water in the fuel??
Till the morning comes, it'll do you fine.
Till the morning comes, like a highway sign,
Showing you the way, leaving no doubt,
Of the way on in or the way back out.

No water in fuel. Apart from a need to adjust the pilot screw, fuel is now fine. Ignition circuit appears fine. I'm investigating the indicator circuit now.

Checked indicator circuit and idiot bulb. The new flasher relay is duff. It's fine now. There should be no shorts on any circuits. The wiring around the rectifier was a mess but okay now.

Time to tune the carb and take it out (only nearby) again. With a bag of spare fuses.

Well, no break downs. All seems fixed-apart from tuning.

Way to go, Papa! :bigok:
If it weren't for the therapeutic properties of the occasional off-camber decreasing radius downhill right-hander I'd almost certainly go completely sane.

Duh. This is the 21st century. You're supposed to spend more time on pics than repairs.

Congrats on (hopefully) tracking the gremlins down.
