I was down in the area this past weekend.
The destruction is quite sobering.
Acres of debris that used to be people's homes.
Entire inventory of businesses ruined.
Lives lost. Very sad.
On a brighter note, it was heart warming to see
entire communities come together to clean up
and rebuild and get on with their lives. At no time
did I see evidence of "giving up" or despair.
These people are tough and resilient.
About the roads: Efforts were in high gear to
clean up the mud and debris.
All major roads are open for the most part.
Spotty minor delays. Secondary roads weren't
bad either although there were some closures.
I noted Rte 41 near Babcock SP was closed as
was Williams River Road. ( Indefinitely )
I saw no evidence of flooding at anything above
river level elevation although there was the
occasional mudslide or tree fall.
The area has come a long way in a relatively
short time, all things considered.
My hat's off to the people of WV.
