Anybody in Oklahoma?
« on: June 07, 2016, 11:16:21 AM »
There is a very good chance I will be accepting a job in Ponca City, OK in the near future. Looks like a good opportunity to start working in power plants again, so I don't think I can pass it up. This job in Tucson is horrible, we have had 5 people quit in less than a year. The engineer I work with just went in to our bosses office and quit on the spot with no notice. I cant say I blame him.

Ponca City is an almost 2 hour drive north of Oklahoma City. It's close to the Kansas border. I'm wondering if there is anybody in the area?

I've got nothing for you other than to offer condolences on your current situation and best of luck on the new opportunity.

Bikingsailor and Jay547 are the only 2 that come to mind.

You're at the edge of some great riding.

I don't know who/what is available in OK, but you're not that far west of the great riding in northwest Arkansas. That could make for some VERY good weekend trips.

Hope your job situation works out.

Yeah, Arkansas is nice but you'd be 9 hours from the Rockies.  mic drop

9 hours from Roswell, NM
12 hours from Big Bend NP in TX

I wasn't crazy about the location at first, but as many of you mentioned, it's not far from some good riding. I figure I am within a days ride of a lot of good stuff.

I lived in Dallas for many years. I spent mucho time in Arkansas and NE Oklahoma. Drop me a line when you're ready to head that direction.

Hope the job opportunity works out well for you.  Ponca City is a pretty nice place to live with several good restaurants locally.  Not too big, but big enough.

Nice riding just a couple hours to the East.  SW Missouri and NW Arkansas has some of the best riding there is.  Colorado is not to far to the West.  We do Colorado, Texas Hill Country trips about once a year and the Ozarks at least half a dozen times a year.  Some of the cool things nearby are Seba Station MC museum in Warwick, Ok (on route 66) and another good one in Grove, Ok.  Easy days ride to Austin for MotoGP in April and multiple Flat Track events that folks around here travel to.  For track days there is Hallett just a little to the South, about an hour away.

There will be lots of weekend overnight trips to the Ozarks we take that you would be welcome to join in on, along with the Talhimena drive rides.

Also Daniel Kalal (world motorcycle traveler, photographer, race sponsor and super nice guy) lives just a bit North in Wichita.

Thanks for the info and the invite. I am currently without a motorcycle, but hope to change that within the next couple of months.

They flew me out to Ponca City a couple of weeks ago so I did see a little of the area. I am having trouble finding a decent apartment in Ponca City and was looking at a places in Stillwater and Arkansas City.

Ponca is a small town, but seems to have a lot to offer despite its size.

" I am currently without a motorcycle, but hope to change that within the next couple of months."

If you move out here before getting a MC, know that there are bikes available for day rides in my garage, some even needing a bit more action than they are currently seeing.

Yep I know where that's at. The company I am going to work for has an office there.
