Thanks, everyone, for the well wishes and encouragement. Between the two of us, Rusty and I will get this story told!
Having seen this bike personally and up close...and knowing the Proprietor of Rusty's Bike and Smoke Shack as I do...I can tell you that you are truly in for the ride of your life!
Seriously, you're in some of the best hands possible to get a Wing from.
Looking forward to the next installment!
Glad to get the additional affirmation from another knowledgable and well-respected member of the group. Believe me when I say, I completely understand and greatly appreciate what a generous gift this is - Rusty exemplifies ST.O hospitality at it's finest!
The best part - I not only end up with a well tended, new-to-me bike and a great adventure; but a new friend as well!
The latest? I've registered the bike here in NY and today sent the plate out via US mail. That way, Rusty will be able to conduct some more thorough shake-down rides without running the risk of having to 'splain to the man!
Rusty reports she gets better and better each time he takes her out. I suspect the bike is much like me - we both get stiff and cranky from sitting around too much! Of course, fresh fluids, filters, and spark plugs may just have a little to do with that, as well.
I'm just so friggin excited to finally see a thread on
this forum that actually involved a motorcycle.
I can't wait for you to ride it home!
Another "Christmas Present" arrived, and Stormcrow had ordered a correct vintage factory toolkit with the plastic tray. Here it is, put in the proper place, waiting for the time to go.

loginI worked on the rear brakes, bled/flushed. So, since this was the last of any tasks I could think of that involve the rear portion of the bike, I installed the vintage Vetter panniers. The seat was taken to the upholstery shop. I pick it up at Noon today.

One heck of a story.
RG sounds like such a good guy that I'll buy him a cold drink if I ever get through Phoenix. And I don't even know him.
Had to find a mirror to see if the green with envy was affecting my appearance. You are living my dream. Keep us informed. Lots of pictures please.
I adore stories and experiences like this. I have always been extremely found of fly and rides, often daydreaming of doing it myself one day but I have no need unless something major happens to the VFR.
I can't wait until the ride home starts with that gorgeous bike.
