I was fitted by my desntist for a nightguard that he usually prescribes for patients who grind their teeth at night. It's molded like a football mouthpiece to fit over your upper teeth with a small tab that fits behind the lower front teeth to bring the jaw forward, keeping the airway open.

My wife says its works pretty well, unless I've had a few drinks then all bets are off.

Try talking to your dentist. He might have some insight.

Yeah, I was supposed to get one of those; basically it fell off the priority radar when I was going through my divorce, but I think it's time to revisit it.

Anyone snore to the point it's impacting your marriage?
 -Dan

My ex snored something fierce. I wouldn't say that ended our relationship, but it certainly didn't help....

She ended up diagnosed with sleep apnea and got a cpap machine. The snoring mostly ended, but it was a bit like sleeping with darth vader. you get used to it, but sometimes the mask would work loose and it would whistle and drive me crazy.

We ended up sleeping in different rooms, which didn't help the other difficulties we were having, so I guess you could say it did have some impact on the marriage.

My doctor told me I was fat and to lose weight.

That's all I got.

My snoring decreased noticeably when I lost weight.
She's got a worm in 'er belly? That's disgusting! That's interesting, but very disgusting.

If I drink and lay on my back I snore.  If I lay on my side, no problems.

I did a sleep study a few years ago - no apnea. Not sure I could handle one of those CPAP machines, although I'm told they're much better than they used to be.

Earplugs don't work for wife, she still hears me.

I'll get myself in better shape, and bought one of the mouth piece thingies. IF it doesn't work, I'll go see this sleep guru dentist and see whether I can get his appliance through insurance. If so, I'll go that route.

Such a huge industry. I found a website where a guy tested all of these mouth pieces and tells you which ones he likes and why - really informative. Hoping to avoid the expensive one, but hey, if I can get it covered under insurance I'm game (I already hit the max out of pocket due to bad injury to wife this Spring...)

I'll keep you posted.

As you age, your air passages constrict. At least that's what my doctor tells me. Just because you may have been fine a few years ago, doesn't mean everything is the same now. IF you have experienced an increase in symptoms, it may be worth doing another sleep study.

I had  a deviated septum fixed after the sleep study and had a CT scan of my sinus passages yesterday. All looks clear.

If I can't solve it with mouthpieces or the guru Dr. Moses, I'll look into it again, but nothing is worse - I'm actually better since the study, but not "better" enough... :bigok:

Same here, but I don't know if drinking has an effect either way.
I have also told partners to tell me to stop, if I'm snoring and I do, even though I don't wake up.

What about the sleep number bed? They claim it is adjustable to remidy snoring issues.
Feels like I've been here before, fuzzy then but still so obscure........

If I sleep on my back (necessary to lift it up), snoring is much worse.  It's been discussed, maybe on the table for the future if all else fails...

This mouthpiece should arrive today or tomorrow, I'll report.

That's surprising.  I've had the opportunity to sleep in one a couple times (some Radissons have them) and found it was basically an adjustable air mattress.

They have the one in the commercial that the wife uses a remote to lift the husband's upper body into a reclining position (like a hospital

I think that's the one to which he is referring.

Just looked that one up.  Starts at $8,000 for the one where you can lift different sides of the bed.  Yowza!

Done the sleep study thing and diagnosed with apnea also. Cpap machines are expensive, noisy and you'll have water dripping down the back of your throat all night, not to mention the hurricaines shooting up your nose.

Unless you have insurance to pay for the whole contraption, try a couple much cheaper alternatives first. Breathe-rite strips. And sew/tape a tennis ball to the back of whatever you sleep in. Sleep in a t-shirt if you have to. Forces you to sleep on your side. As previously mentioned, snoring is worse sleeping on your back.

I've used a machine for 9 years.  My current machine is eerie quiet.  In fact it is so quiet my wife had a hard time getting used to the lack of white noise she had become used to.  With the humidity setting correct (2 out 5 on my end) I never have problems with the water dripping.  And with the right air pressure settings I'm quite fine with the hurricane winds (13.5cfm - rather on the high end of things).

I'd have to say your machine wasn't set up right.

As to cost, you can find decent models in the $400 range.  Yes, top end models can go $1800 or more.  In my world, they've been worth every single penny and then some.
