Men's Snow Pants
« on: January 29, 2015, 02:26:27 PM »
I'm looking to invest in some snow pants for basic use--playing with the kids outside in the snow, sledding, etc.

I always had them as a kid, but never had an adult version.  Anybody have recommendations of brands they prefer from experience?

Speedo has been my go-to brand.

I use ski pants.  Right now everything should be on clearance (since it's technically after the season), so get to your local REI (or equivalent) and snag something!  The North Face also makes stuff too, but it may not be the cheapest brand...not sure if you're looking for higher quality or lower price, if you're more on the quality side of the equation they're usually a safe bet.

They are good for work, but suck in the snow.  Snow sticks to them- I have bibs in Carharts and nylon cheapo snow bibs.  The carharts are WAY tougher, but not good for getting snow on.  After snowmobiling they turn into armor- the snow sticks, melts, then you ride and it freezes.

^Yep.  I bought a pair of bibs for $20 from Cabela's or Dick's on sale this time of year last year- nothing fancy, but they have been holding up well through their second season of snowmobiling and playing with the kids.  They don't need to be too well insulated if you are being active- the big deal is that the nylon keeps the snow from sticking, so they stay dry.

Maybe I got more than I bargained for with this thread.   :o

I have flannel lined jeans that keep me warm, but after a while of playing outside they get damp and cold.  Cabela's and Dick's have some nice stuff online that is reasonably priced for my use.  Hope to get there this weekend to try them on.

Thanks Everyone!

I wear my Aerostich Darien pants (sans pads). Waterproof, durable, easy on/off.

Local Cabela's was sold out of their $49.99 $24.99 pants when I went to try them on.  Ordered them through their website and got 10% off and free shipping.  They arrived in two days.

Awesome.  I have them shipped to the store- that way I don't pay shipping and pick them up when it's convenient.  I love that store...

I've been wearing rain pants over jeans for sledding with the kids.  For snowmobiling I wear Joe Rocket alter ego pants with the waterproof liners.

My old set of Tourmaster Calibers have been great for snow sports.  The knee/hip armor is enough for skiing or sledding.
