It looks like the 2015 Cape Fear Rally is to be the last year for a really fine rally. 

The Coastal Carolina Rally Krewe announces the tenth and final Cape Fear 1000 Rally being held April 17-19, 2015.

AND by invitation only:

Given the number of riders who have participated in the Cape Fear 1000 Rally since its inauguration event in 2006, there will be no public registration for the 2015 – this event will be invitation only.  Invitations to riders will begin being sent out around Christmas, 2014 and those invited will have 72 hours to RSVP in order to receive additional registration information or that invitation will expire and a new invitation will be sent to those with the next level of priority.

I rode in the 2010 edition - hit snow (I did choose to head from Auburn NY to Wilmington NC by way of Vermont  ), drenching rain, and all kinds of zany - but I finished.... and loved every minute of it! Circumstances, scheduling, and the damnable need for a recurring paycheck have prevented me from attempting to take part in subsequent Cape Fear events. And I am the lessor for it.
Who will be amongst the chosen? Inquiring minds want to know! Cape Fear Alumni (and I know there are a few of you here) - what think you of the end of an era?

So sad to see it go. It was one of the best. And one of my best -- I ran three with a best finish of 2nd.

Great rallymaster and great challenges. Always well organized. Great themes. And he pioneered the multiple start locations that have since shown up in other rallies.

I missed the years with the worst weather, but you always ran into something in April.

I hope everyone who has the chance takes it and rides.
