Replacing My Shoei RF 1000, Looking for Advice
« on: July 16, 2014, 10:49:08 PM »
I had hoped to get one more season out of my riding gear and replace it all next spring.  My mishap on Hwy 191 put a bit of a wrinkle in that plan as my RF 1000 took a hit.  The helmet did its job; now it's time for a replacement.

I really liked the way the RF 1000 fit.  After changing to the optional 2 mm smaller cheek pads, it was about a perfect fit.  I liked that it was quite a bit lighter and quieter than the HJC's and KBC's it has been sharing the gear shelf with.  I've used the other, cheaper helmets as my commuter helmets and used the Shoei for trips and weekend excursions.  I'm planning a trip in about a month that (I hope) will include some IBA qualifying rides and I would rather not face long days on the road in one of the heavier, noisier helmets I have in hand.

Motorcyclegear.com has the Shoei Qwest on sale this week and I'm pretty tempted.  Has anyone moved from the RF 1000 to the Qwest?  How did the fit and overall quality of the Qwest compare?  For those of you who "just fit" in the rf 1000, what helmet have you moved on to that you would recommend.

Thanks for the help.

If you liked the Rf 1000 so much, why not look at the Rf 1200?
Then you're ripped right out of the ground like a fucking root.  No, you simply cannot hide from the ugly truth.

I went from the RF1000 to a Neotec. I keep the RF for track days, but for me the Neotec was an upgrade for street riding. Best all-around lid ever.

Napper, what helmet did you get and how is it working for you?

I use a Scorpion EXO-700 and sometimes a EXO-500.  I like the anti-fogging of Scorpion helmets but their shields don't seal all that well in my experience.  Shoei has released quite a few more models in the last couple of years.  I'm window shopping the Shoei helmets (RF1200, GT Air, Qwest) as my Scorpion EXO-700 is from 2009 I believe.

I'll need to try the Shoei helmets on at some point.
