I have a Ruger M77 RSI carbine in .243. Built like a tank, accurate as hell, and carries like a dream on long hunts. Any deer or pig inside of 200 meters is freezer meat.

Love the M77. But not in 7mmRM.   :o

Well hell, if we're posting pictures of M77s.... ;D

Just curious when this will be moved to the proper thread?

I am asking for expert advice so it's in the proper place, eh?

Never shot one of those but the 7mm has an "explosive kick". Hold on tight and get a scope with really good eye relief. I have a 375 H&H and it kicks freaking hard but its more of a push than an explosive jolt to your inner body.

This is a very accurate description of the 7mmRM.

Explosive Jolt....I like it!

I've kept mine because one never knows when an 18foot pissed off Grizzly bear will head east and decide to decend upon a loved one.

Hand load it if you can, its a very capable round and Full power loads are rarely needed here in North America. Its one of the flattest shooting 7mm's out there and ammo used to be available at Wally World before the Great Gubbermint Ammo Grab.

I've been loading Hornady 130gr SP's with IMR 4007 power....Winchester primers....68 grains makes a nice tight group that you dont mind shooting more then twice.

Yes.  By all means, yes.  Fire that gun and add a mule kicking you in the shoulder at the same time.  A friend who shot with w/o the muzzle brake shot it once and said "Never again".  That same friend has a 3 1/2" Rem 870 Supermag, and he said it probably kicked about twice what a 3 1/2" turkey load did.  It hurt.

Which is why I got it at a great price.   :bigok:

FYI:
The 7mm Rem Mag with a 150 gr pill is about 3100 ft/s at the muzzle.
The 300 Ultra with a 150 gr pill is 3456 ft/s, which is really is the lightest factory ammo you can buy.  The 300 can throw a 200 grain bullet at 3150 ft/s with handloads.

Data from:
http://gundata.org/blog/post/7mm-rem-mag-ballistics-chart/
http://gundata.org/cartridge/66/.300-remington-ultra-magnum/

In the last two years I have shot it four times and harvested four deer.

Back to reality- I might need to think about trading this beast for a 30.06 or something more reasonable for what I hunt.

I have an M77 in a .280.  Devastating on deer.

Had my Dad's .30-06 but he took it back.  Bought the .280 to replace it.  I haven't been disappointed.
