I have one in .308 that I got it a trade a few years ago. Stainless with a synthetic stock. After I took it to the range, .5" groups with the cheap ammo, not much better with expensive stuff. I hate the way it looks, but I love the confidence I have in it. Killed a lot of deer and pigs with it.

A friend of my Brother had a 7mm Rem Mag. When we videod a trip to the range with all our stuff ("This is a .38 Special Derringer... BANG!), things got so sporty when he set off the 7mm Rem Mag that it destabilize the 8mm video tape in my recorder even though I was about 6' to his right and 3' behind him.

Watching the video is funny because we grin like idiots after each round is fired. Then the 7mm RM goes off and the video is "And this is a 7mm Rem MaFKHSD:HA:KGDKhbsdadkakhdjasdlas... WOE!"

All true.  Great value rifle there and the Ruger M77 has been around for quite a while.  7mm RMag is a great all around rifle.  Good for pretty much anything up to the great bears.  I'm taking my 7mm RMag to Africa in 7 weeks.  good times!

yea, it was from my uncles estate, the other choice was a M77 in .243 but since I have a .243 I figured the cannon would be a good choice? maybe I should start putting in for an Elk tag next year?? anyway thanks for the input I'm looking forward (sort of) to sighting it in. it's in good shape:

When I got a Rem in 300 Ultra Mag (I got the gun at an incredible price with 5 rounds through it) I brought it right to the gunsmith and had him install a muzzle brake before I even shot it once.  It tamed her right down- but you DO NOT want to be near me when I shoot...

Never shot one of those but the 7mm has an "explosive kick". Hold on tight and get a scope with really good eye relief. I have a 375 H&H and it kicks freaking hard but its more of a push than an explosive jolt to your inner body.

This is a very accurate description of the 7mmRM.

I've kept mine because one never knows when an 18foot pissed off Grizzly bear will head east and decide to decend upon a loved one.


Hand load it if you can, its a very capable round and Full power loads are rarely needed here in North America. Its one of the flattest shooting 7mm's out there and ammo used to be available at Wally World before the Great Gubbermint Ammo Grab.

Yes.  By all means, yes.  Fire that gun and add a mule kicking you in the shoulder at the same time.  A friend who shot with w/o the muzzle brake shot it once and said "Never again".  That same friend has a 3 1/2" Rem 870 Supermag, and he said it probably kicked about twice what a 3 1/2" turkey load did.  It hurt.

Which is why I got it at a great price.   

FYI:
 The 7mm Rem Mag with a 150 gr pill is about 3100 ft/s at the muzzle.
 The 300 Ultra with a 150 gr pill is 3456 ft/s, which is really is the lightest factory ammo you can buy.  The 300 can throw a 200 grain bullet at 3150 ft/s with handloads.

Back to reality- I might need to think about trading this beast for a 30.06 or something more reasonable for what I hunt.
