Hooray for relocating! Hooray for dinners! Boo for between bikes! I imagine there's quite a story here...anytime you need an ear, we're here.
(Which part of the bay area will you be in? Just you or the whole family?)
Thanks Carolyn!
(Just remember everybody, she encouraged me to talk. Be careful what you wish for....lol.)
I've been trying to facilitate this relocation for quite a while now, and finally found myself in the right job at the right time.
Sold the KLR on April 1st and planned to buy another bike pretty much immediately.
At 10am the next morning, I got the call that my dad had passed away suddenly from a massive cardiovascular event (heart attack or stroke). He had minor ones of both in the past couple of years, and it was definitely one or the other, so my mom elected not to have an autopsy performed.
I was scheduled to learn about my promotion later that afternoon, and I would have told my dad about it that night. He missed it by a single day, which breaks my heart. But I had an idea it was coming and told him about it during our last conversation. He knew how badly I'd wanted this, and I know he was proud.

I ended up finding out about the promotion and relocation on my birthday this past Friday. Talk about bittersweet...
Anyway, his passing has thrown my life into a degree of chaos. My mom is in good shape financially, but there are always considerable expenses in the first few weeks and months after something like this. So my bike money has been repurposed for those reasons for now.
Sorry...TMI I know. I have a tendency to do that.

Also not yet sure if I want to have a bike in the bay area. If I was skittish about Sacramento traffic, what the heck am I going to do with 5 times the amount of crazies on the road?

I'll be working in the financial district in SF, so I'm looking at Alameda because it's close and quiet, and the north 680 corridor (Martinez, Pleasant Hill, Concord) because I'm most familiar with that area. I'm also open to suggestions from bay area veterans, as I don't know other parts of the region quite as well.
I'll be moving alone for now....and probably for good. We'll see. Another long story there, but I'll self-censor for now...lol.
Did you know that the bay area is a *really* expensive place to live?

I may end up trying to rent a room somewhere as opposed to trying to rent a 1 bedroom apartment.
