So, the wife and daughter moved out this past Sunday, and I've been going through all the shit that's left behind. I found my old cassette collection last night. 135+ or so mostly beat to shit cassette tapes from high school. Mostly late 70's through mid-80's rock. Scorpions, Metallica, Rush, hair band of the moment, type stuff.

I hate to just pitch them, since they represent a goodly portion of every dollar I made in high school... but I don't even HAVE a tape player any longer.

What say you?

I voted to pitch them or give them to Ed. However, in hindsight, you may need to also get Ed a cassette deck. His eight track may ruin them.

Although he may be able to get them to work on the reel to reel if he takes them out of the case.

I am willing to bet anything worthwhile is available digitally and even free via Pandora and the like. But you could buy a device and convert them to digital; I'm betting they would sound like crap.

My take....dump them.

That's a tough one... I have the same dilemma, sort of. Denise is moving in w/ me & we were cleaning out closets to make room for her stuff & I still have a bunch of tapes from the 80s & 90s too. I hate to pitch them but they've all been replaced w/ CD's or downloaded. It seems like putting them on Ebay is going to take a whole lot of effort. Maybe we should all box up our tapes & send them to Ed! I think that would be hilarious!

I think I tossed all mine, now wondering what to do with all the CD's. once I transferred them all to my laptop (and backup) they have been in a box?

While we're at it, do any of you know whether a Sony Stereo AM/FM Receiver model STR-AV950 has any value?

It has to be circa '88 or '89. Buddy of mine bought it and it was probably a pretty decent system in the day...

If it's been awhile since you listened to a store-bought
cassette tape the audio quality will probably make
your ears bleed.

It has been quite a while, and you're probably right... I imagine it's pretty awful.

Tapes don't last forever. Heck, even cd's aren't forever. Even if you had a player they probably wouldn't make it thru without breaking or pealing off the magnetic coating. Save them for the mystery box.

I gave mine to my little cousin, who still listens to them (He's 36 or so and is a drummer in a rock band). No joke, he'll gladly take yours and use them. PM me if you want a shipping address. at least this way, they will be used.

Humorously my 2002 Ranger has a cassette player, not a CD player. I pulled out a couple of my old tapes and have them in the truck. Occasionally when the radio commercials are too numerous, I push in the tape

Hey, a happy ending!

I was about to add that I trashed mine. It kind of hurt -- lots of memories in there. The remaining vinyl got trashed in a basement flood about a decade ago. We trashed the CD collection while downsizing for our last move.

One big EMP and I'll have to sing to myself if I want music.

I used to hate it when people wouldn't put the cassettes back in the cases, and they'd rattle around the car.

They would wind up unravelling inside, have tight and loose spots, then you'd have to do this:
