Lifeproof Phone Cases - what headphones fit?

I received a lifeproof case as a gift, and it's excellent - totally waterproof up to 6 ft. deep, can drop it from 10 ft. or so without damaging the iPhone (not tested).

BUT - you have to use an adapter for almost all headphones other than the original Apple headphones that come with the iPhone (they have a skinny enough plug to fit the Lifeproof case without the adapter).

Any suggestions for headphones with a mic/volume control that are good quality with a skinny plug? I also have a Best Buy gift card burning a hole in my pocket...

Lifeproof cases come with a special adapter for the headphone jack that screws into the case. Without the adapter the case isn't actually waterproof when you are using the headphones.

You can use JVC air cushions without the adapter, but they have no mic. You can use any earbuds or headphones with the adapter, but if you get a call, you won't be able to talk unless you unscrew the adapter to unplug the headphones.

So if you call me while I am listening to podcasts, I will call you back.....

I get that it's not waterproof without the adapter. For every day use, when not serving as a GPS in the rain when mounted on my bike, I'm trying to find decent headphones that do NOT require the adapter...

The Apple earbuds that come with the phone fit, but I'm hoping for something a bit higher in quality sound.
