Harold Ramis, best known for appearing in "Ghostbusters" and directing comedic films "Groundhog Day," "National Lampoon's Vacation," and "Caddyshack," died at the age of 69 early Monday.

Ramis died from complications of autoimmune inflammatory vasculitis, which is a rare disease that involves swelling of the blood vessels, according to his wife Erica Mann (via the Chicago Tribune)........

How very odd - for some reason last night, I was dreaming about the movie "Groundhog Day".

I actually actively dislike that movie, but HR's career is quite notable and chock full of great stuff.

Ground Hog wasn't my favorite either...but his filmography encompasses the comedic classics of our (ok my) generation including Animal House, Caddy Shack, Ghost Busters....

I actually list that movie among my all time favorites.  One cannot go re-watch it over and over like Caddy Shack or the other NL options - but I really liked it.

I think this calls for a poll to determine after Caddy Shack (the clear winner every time) which of his movies would be #2.

Same- although Caddy Shack is quite possibly my all-time favorite comedy.  Ghost Busters was great too- I loved Ramis in that.  RIP.

I still think SCTV  was the funniest thing ever on the small screen and he was both a writer and head writer for that show.

Personally, Animal House is one of my all time faves. But having grown older and drug free, a lot of those movies I used to enjoy back then are just plain silly to me now.  :shrug:

I love  Groundhog Day, but that's probably more because of my man crush on Bill Murray than anything else.  I was just remarking to my wife how odd feels now that people I consider my contemporaries age-wise are dying off. Inside I'm still 16.  :eek:

Clovis, NM (Cannon AFB) Saturday nights in the late 70's: Set up the rabbit ears antenna and tweak just right to pull in the Albuquerque stations to watch SNL and then SCTV. General agreement that SCTV kicked SNL's comedic ass more often than not.

RIP, Mr. Ramis, and thank you for years of laughs. I feel a sudden urge for marshmallows.
