That was cool. I think they are making a bit of a leap in some areas though- I question whether or not river meanderings can be accurately measured in the 20 years since the wolves' return- especially since the impacts would have been working their way through the system. VERY interesting though- thanks for the heads up!

I read a Nat Geo in my doctors office about this a few years ago and regretted not taking it with me.
It's unfortunate how ignorant certain folk are about Wolves, Coyotes and labeling any animal not originally from a particular area "Invasive".

This . . . . . .coyotes are getting really common around here . . . .it's amusing to listen to the teacup dog owners get all insensed about the threats to their dogs . . . . . the same folks, of course, who want deer controlled to keep em out of their gardens. Controlled, but, you know, not hurt.

We here in the upper midwest prefer to use em as muskie bait.

Muskies will strike quicker at live bait, doncha know.

Absolutely no argument.

I find it amusing that people still bitch about, say, deer all over the place, but can't accept the idea of (re)introducing their natural predators back into an area for population control. Mrs. Jones' toy poodle might get eaten by a wolf. Yippee. Whatever. I say bring back some balance.... or finish the job and everyone should be required to kill a deer each per season, at least. Everyone.

Oh, no. Not at all. People just need to own it. Accept that we change the landscape. When you under- or over-populate an area with predators, and Man is an apex predator species, things change. Our presence changes things... Just accept that and move on with life. Either be happy that your toy poodle might be eaten by predators if he gets out if we repopulate predators, or we accept things like an over-abundance of prey animals, less green and forested land where cities live, and gosh.. yes, civilization creates "pollution" and "environmental changes."

I agree, to an extent. All animals need to be hunted eventually. Without some management you get population swings. With proper management you smooth out the curves- take more when the populations are on an upswing, take less when they are on a downswing. Everyone benefits then, including the environment.

The only problem is that we have altered the landscape enough that some can't come back into the places they were, while others thrive.
