Are there any low cost recorders that do a good job? I may get a recorder but it doesn't need to be professional quality. Good for home videos without costing a mint would be nice. Thanks for your suggestions.

Do you plan on editing these "we'll call them films"  ?

Tape is pretty much dead so you should probably stick with a HDD or flash drive model.

Just head over to CNET's camcorder reviews and pick your features and price.  Lori Grunin does a decent job with the reviews there.

Don't have any experience with them but Kodak offers a small camcorder similar to the Flip video ones
