I've always been a big fan of Corbin, but I see a lot of people having problems with them these days. I've been lucky and I've had decent service, but I've never had to send a seat back. After doing some research I am looking at two seats from Sargent.

I just cannot decide which one I want... there are pros and cons to each.

I had a sergent on my F8ST and absolutely loved it. Held good form but not to hard for longer trips

I've had Sargents on all my bikes.  They are much better than stock.  The foam on the C14 seat seams to be getting a little compressed at 50,000 miles but it's still comfortable for 4-500 mile days.

Of the two you posted the top one seems to be more dirt oriented.  The bottom one looks better if most of your time will be spend on roads.  I include dirt roads when I say roads.  I'd go for the bottom one myself since you won't be tossing a bike that size around on tight singletrack.

If I lived further west I think I would do that, but I'm stuck in the midwest.

I've had a Corbin on my SV for the past 10 years and have been happy with it. I decided to go in a different direction for the Sprint. I decided that I wanted to see what all the fuss around the Russell Day Long was about. People who have them seem to think that they're made of pure magic.

A custom Russell with leather inserts is literally $2.00 more than an off-the-shelf Corbin. Less for all vinyl. Of course, you have to deal with the added hassle and cost of shipping your seat to Russell and the 2 to 3 week wait for it to be built. It's January and I have another bike. No big deal. You also lose the ability to go back to stock when it comes time to sell.

My seat is being built now.

I also considered a Lamm seat. They look good and come in around $100 less than the Russell. I went with the Russell just because they have a longer, more consistent track record. I think I remember reading that Seth Lamm worked for Russell or one of the Meyers at some point.

IMO if you're going to spend money on an aftermarket seat, invest in something other than a mass-produced one like Sargent or Corbin make.  I've had both and while yes - they're better than stock, they're not that much better. 

I've ridden my GS & GSA with both the original stock seat, Sargent seat and now a Russell Day Long.   The RDL is well worth the money.  The Sargent was not all-day comfy and the RDL simply is.  Tammy bought a Sargent soon after acquiring her GSA and on long rides like our recent NV/CA trip it's still very uncomfortable.  She's investing in a Rick Mayer that's on sale this month (just $269 for leather, free shipping - helluva deal!).  I had a Rick Mayer seat on my WeeStrom and again, it was all-day comfortable on our Alaska/Yukon/NWT trip.

Excellent.  I look forward to seeing pics of the finished product.  Seems like Seth makes customer service a top priority, unlike many of the custom places.

He's done with the seat and I'm just waiting on FedEx to not deliver it to me next week.

He accomplished my BIGGEST request and that was to NOT send me back something that looks like a tractor seat. I'll let everyone know how it feels after my trip to Denver next month.
