Exterior doors

I'm starting a new chicken coop project. I want to install steel insulated doors on it. All doors at the home centers are in swing doors and I want mine to swing out. I know I can special order an out swing door. Can you just install an in swing door backward so it swings out? The only thing i can see that would be different between the two would be the sill plate. The doors will be under a porch so should not get normal rain at them. And it is just a chicken coop. Anybody see an issue doing this?

No problem if out of the weather. You can knock off and reverse the brickmold.
Why not order out swing door, probably the same price.

Exterior doors are normally installed from the outside.
While reversing the door may not make any difference
to YOU, it might make a difference to a framer.
And as stated, may only require reversing the trim.

Actually, I don’t think it matters.  Exterior is the type of door (stronger/better insulated).  All of ours open inward.  Now, storm doors and screen doors open outward.  Nothing saying you can install a door backwards.  It will open outward but on the wrong side.

That really won't work for a house.  The threshold is completely different for an out-swing vs. an in-swing.   Not sure how fancy your chicken coop is - maybe you can hack it up and make it work.

PS  - I special ordered and installed and out-swing door from my garage into my house 3 or 4 years ago...

the weather stripping will be on the wrong side so if you are in a wet climate that will lead to problems with rot sooner than if you installed it correctly.

Ever considered free-range chickens?  :facepalm:  I have made a couple of swing out doors for sheds and cellar entrances that were custom sizes, which is pretty common around here on older structures.  Easy enough to do if it doesn't have to be a weather-tight insulated fit.  But with the cost of materials today, I'll bet you can get prefab from a big box store faster, cheaper, fit and primed.  Google is your friend.
