I would be thrilled to be wrong. There’s nothing I want to do more than ride in the USA in the places I know where the roads are unbelievably fantastic. The riders that have easy access to North Carolina or Tennessee or West Virginia or or or are so lucky. I have the 401.😢
The very few interesting roads around here I’ve ridden so many times that they’re boring now.
This pandemic has changed everything. And from the reading I’ve done (that’s mostly what I do now) it appears that this is just another pandemic in a line of future ones that will arrive in increasing frequency. The problem is that humans are affecting the natural world so much that animals will increasingly infect us. The number of infectious diseases coming from animals is over 40,000 and counting.

I'm out as well. My riding has been so limited this year I didn't even bother renewing the registrations last month. Hoping for a better year next year.

Make an official letterhead letter stating you are essential and needed at the meet to kick off the fall/winter riding season. Eventhough we know all year is the riding season.

Not to derail the planning, but that Canadian/US border thing always confused me. I thought we did NOT have a fence across the border? That's a looooong border. What's to stop someone from just going from a Canadian field to a US field just out of eyesight of the border guards on the highway? Seriously, is there any impediment?

I recall hearing it is the longest unguarded border in the world. The tree line is cleared in some places. Not sure about the entire length. If you go to Peace Park, you can take a boat ride across. I recall seeing a road that loops from US up through Canada and back into US with no customs stations but also no crossroads, so yes, you could cross undetected in many places.

How do you think all those Payday bars sneak across?

I agreed to some prerequisite travel criteria back in August. NC is back on the self-quarantine list and the northern border is still closed. So I'm going to spend the weekend hiding in the basement. Not to worry, there is a large cache of wine, at least one 6-pack of assorted craft beers, assorted distilled spirits, lots of spiders if I need a garnish, and various power tools if I get bored.

Right. None of those states are in the mix for Sparta. And NC has no travel restrictions at all. But I don't think Skee is comfortable traveling anywhere at this point in time regardless of the lack of travel restrictions. I'll miss him... The number of regulars that show up at these meets is slowly shrinking.

Thanks, NC was on a list when I looked at it earlier last week, because I recall discussing it with the nurse who pulled it up. The page was dated 9/21, but it never occurred to me to check whether the list on it was current. Doesn’t matter - Gary is correct - I’m not comfortable traveling out of state when the socially responsible thing to do is limit non-essential travel and socialization to minimize transmission of the virus.

I’d really like to run my new Versys on 311, the snake, dragon etc. & down a couple of pints with you. I was hoping to make a week long trip out of it.

I guess travel is a relative term. We have a vacation scheduled but since we're doing the RV thing, our interactions with other people are extremely limited. With the exception of having to get gas, I can go a very long time without interacting with another person or thing that isn't my own. We can do a week long trip in an isolated campground, ride the quad on sparsely populated trails, and hike about with the dog and barely come into contact with anyone.

Conversely, I just recently traveled for work and it was a soup sandwich. Restaurants, hotels, people everywhere. Blech. Hate.

I would like to have made Sparta, especially after have just done some time on the Parkway. Sigh.

I’d be going to Sparta if I had a toy hauler (and my schedule was clear). That’s in my long term plan if Covid lasts 2 years or more.

My wife & I travel a lot, and quite frankly, we enjoy upscale hotels in urban areas. An RV is an anathema to her. I’m trying to talk her into it as a realistic possibility. We’ll see what happens next year. In the meantime, as a distraction, we’ve been taking virtual tours of trips we’ve had to cancel. We should be on a plane back from Ireland today. But there’s no point in going anywhere - even if we could get through Customs - because pretty much everything is closed worldwide.
