I've been using and OLD Sony product, and Windows Movie Maker, so I don't need anything "pro" grade.  However it's time to be able to do a little more, like edit two videos to be side-by-side into one video.  Maybe that is pro-grade.  Any recommendations for me?  Thanks!

You don't have to sign up for any period of time as a minimum, so you can use it 'til you're done, then cancel.

I can't really offer any valid, quality, reliable suggestions outside of that for Windows. I've been pretty disappointed with a bunch of them over the years. Liz has tons of various graphics work to do for her myriad jobs and turns on and off her Adobe subscription as necessary, and it's always pretty kick ass.

Caveat: it's been at least 5 years since I tried to do any of that on Windows. There may be better options.

I use Video Director by Cyberlink (?).  It’s reasonably cost, often on sale, and has worked reliably for me.  I’ve had to upgrade when new formats come out the older version can’t read (e.g., video from iPhone 7).

Adobe.  Don't be a skin flint.  It's only 20 bucks for the entire suite for students/teachers

Just get the school to pay for everyone.  You could raise tuition 5 or 6 bucks a year to cover it for everyone.

Never say never.   Plus, think of it as paying for continual updates.


Or just work somewhere where they give you half a dozen licenses for free.
