So unless you're really old, or have issues, why? Apparently, you can still get it (even get it again) and still pass it. Not looking for a pissing match, just curious.

Sorry to sound miserable but vaccination doesn't allow a complete return to normal. You can still get the virus and pass it on (although chances are lower). Keep social distancing for the moment, vaccinated or not.

Understood.  But the light at the end of the tunnel isn't an oncoming train this time.

79% effective at prevention (I recall the UK and EU studies rated it a bit higher) and, most importantly, 100% effective at preventing serious illness.

Just got notice and made my appointment for shot #1 a week from today.  With luck, I'll have #2 before our trip to Missouri in mid-May?

Just a little silliness to add here.

One of my younger bro-in-laws is getting his first Covid shot this week with the sickly folks.  His BMI is higher than the charts would like him to be.  The silly part is that he's fit and lean, but all muscle.  He's been an athlete all his life, regularly plays several team sports, and lifts weights.  But he's been notified that he can get his shot now because his BMI puts him in the obese category.

Goofy.   

I received my first shot last Monday with the second scheduled three weeks from that date.  Sheri and I have a kayak trip planned the week of Memorial Day and we'll both be inoculated by then.  I am so excited to get this all behind me that I've already booked a week-long motorcycle trip later this year and a long weekend hiking trip in Utah.  It felt so good to book travel.

If you haven't done much hiking in Utah, I have some suggestions:

Absolute must is the Virgin River Narrows.  We did it as an overnighter from the top down.  Required a ride to the opposite end to start. 

Halls Creek Narrows was pretty amazing as well but you gotta work for that one.

Thanks.  This will be my third time to Utah.  It and Maine are my main "outdoor" destinations. 

My niece is graduating college and I'm taking her to hike the Narrows and Angel's Landing.   

We'll wrap up the trip on her birthday in Vegas w/ dinner. 

psychology of the mask is something I would like to understand more.  I just don't get it? Of course I live in that renegade state that is killing people left and right, or whatever one cares to believe.  But overall most people are pretty careful. There are those select individuals that boggle the mind though. the ones driving alone in their car with a mask are commonly made fun of but the ones that get me are the ones that wear that mask while riding their bike on the bike path (nobody near them), then take it off, go sit at the brewery in close proximity to dozens of other people for an hour, then put the mask back on to ride their bike home alone?? please explain the logic to me?

First shot done! I have my appointment for the 2nd on April 14th.

Got stuck yesterday, feeling mighty tired today.
Back on the 17th for the refill.

Some people got their wish. I got the rona! I had a fever and mostly just slept for 3 days. After that I was good to go and felt good. Lung issues and breathing difficulties never entered into it. Taste and smell are returning. To those who wished me ill, HA HA Bitches! I'm back at work!

My wife faired even better, her fever wasn't as high as mine.

Glad you made it through that unscathed.

Good weather is on the way.  Now maybe we can both get out & ride.

I understand that precautions are necessary but....

The first week of May I will be aboard a VIMS research vessel for a week of sediment sampling at the mouth of Chesapeake Bay.   I get my second Moderna shot on April 26th,  but I still have to have a negative PCR test done no earlier than April 28th so I can board the ship. 

We’re in to another lockdown effective at midnight. Damn government keeps trying to kill a bear with a fly swatter. ICU’s are swamped. And if people had just stayed smart instead of treating this like a joke we would be out of it. We spiked the ball on the 2 yard line.

Finally scheduled to get my first shot on the 20th. Made it thru Pa,s clusterfuck system.

PA’s system is no system.  Every county does their own thing. 

Here in Montgomery county, residents can register on-line or by phone anytime after their priority classification opens.  The county sends you a one-time one-use PIN number when your spot in the waiting line opens up.  Your pin allows you to make one appointment for your first shot at a time and place of your choosing.  One week before your second shot is due, the county sends you a second pin for your second shot.  No fuss, no mess, no waiting in a long line. 

Next county over, you look on-line to see who has vaccine available, and then call around to see if you can get an appointment.  Smart people in that county have actually gone to other counties to get their shots sooner.  Of course, it’s a bit of a clusterfuck because some people make duplicate appointments that they don’t keep, etc.  just spoke to someone there yesterday who said they have wasted a lot of time without getting an appointment. 

Won’t be surprised if some kickback scandals are uncovered.

Wife and I got both our shots (Pfizer) in March, so we're good to go now. I wasn't terribly concerned,  but when opportunity presented itself, I took the appointment. Our provider (AHN) had a very well run event at the local convention center.

vaccinating the entire human population is kind of important-not just us rich countries-or it'll never go away (and it probably won't go away just become easier to manage)

A new variant of coronavirus that combines 18 mutations was discovered in Brazil this week. No big surprise there.  Currently reporting more than 4,000 deaths per day, Brazil is one of the world's worst-hit countries.

I'm fully prepared for another huge upswing.  We're figuring on another year of not traveling.  Between the somewhat ridiculous travel policy at work and the reality of not getting paid if I do get it, we'll just close the gates and wait it out...again...still...
