WTB: KLR Engine

Fourstring finally heard back from Stanimal on the prognosis for the ‘09 KLR. The engine can be fixed, but it would be cheaper and better to just drop a new one in. So, which of you ST-O.ners has one sitting around that I can acquire?

How bad is the current engine?  Buying a used one is a giant leap of faith cuz you might end up worse off. I’d just fix what you have and know it’s good.

It's quite bad, according to Stanimal.  Whoever did the original conversion work on it (I forget all the details, but apparently it's a common KLR engine mod) really fornicated the baked good, which was why it blew up on fourstring.  Stan can do the work (which involves resleeving the cylinders and a lot of other stuff), but it's going to be a couple of grand.

Checking eBay, a “good” condition engine is in the $1400 ballpark.  $2000 for a fully refreshed engine sounds like a better choice, but it’s not my budget.  Are you keeping the bike when done?

Ebay sale 202807725012 for a 2008 lump.

Needs a little cleanup and has 3160 miles. Seller accepts offers and has a good rep.  I'd offer $750-$800 seeing as how it needs a little cosmetic love.
