So I hang out with a bunch of interesting people. Every two weeks, we meet at the local Irish pub for food, drink, and bench racing. One of these characters is Ken. Another one is Erik. There are others, but this is not their story. Ken and Erik are like Felix and Oscar as far as vehicle projects go but they will do anything for each other.

So yes, Ken has a Norton. Fitted with a nitrous bottle. And he took it with Erik's help to the AMA speed trials at Bonneville last week. Ken is 77. But he seems younger. And then... well there's more. Here's a link to Ken's thread:

this is the thing a lot of people don't realize about the salt flats. It isn't like the highway. first of all it is at a decent elevation (4,200'), second it is usually hot. Both things that rob power, specially from smaller engines. Then there is the surface. it is slippery! just riding out to the spectator area on my CBR a twist of the throttle in 3rd gear at 30mph resulted in the wheel spinning. I think the top level guys have wheel spin down to around 10% so when people say "I've done 150 on my XXX out on the road" it's not the same thing at all.
