One for the EoE.

I want to make the Griso's seat more comfortable.

So, gel insert, memory foam, rebuild with other types of foam? I've searched the interweebs and arguments for and against gel/ memory foam seem fairly inconclusive and many don't specify the type of gel.

Temps over here are generally lower than the States in summer and not so cold in winter.

I have an air seat cover-sits me too high. Corbin or Sergeant are US based and a wee bit pricey.

I've heard good things about Topsellerie (from the 2 people I've spoken to who have one).   The seats appear to be well-made.  Don't know how comfortable they are; neither of these guys ride long distances.  I heard Topsellerie is a French company.  They ship here to the states.  I guess you can still do business across the channel, at least for a few more months.  LOL

Having had both Corbin foam and Sargent gel, I prefer a broad firmer sculpted seat to gel.  Gel is comfy for the first 2 or 3 hours, then it wads up and starts to annoy me.  I like Corbin because after about 5000 mile break-in, it's like sitting in a well-made wooden chair; it's comfortable for hours even though it's not padded.  I was told manufacturers put cushy foam seats on bikes because 1) they are cheap 2) they feel good in the showroom and 3) they know riders are going to replace them anyway.  Your experiences may vary.

It's made from car seat beads, cut to size.
Big enough for two motorcycle seats, about $8.00.  (What that is in Pounds, not sure. ;))

about £1000,000. But I don't need any extra seat height, because of the handlebar set up.

Learn me up (fecking Mericun gibberish) on foam/ gel/ memory foam. Skee is a definite anti-gel person.

Hmmm, I'm seeing ~275 Euros for the seat I linked using the UK as the delivery country.


Add me to that list of gel haters.  I like my Corbins: a real saddle for all day comfort.  My buddy has done some reasonably long days on his French seat, in the 750 mile range from breakfast to dinner.

My experience isn't varying. I'd had foam seats from various Meyer family members for about a decade and never really had problems with long days. I've got a Triumph gel seat now. The only reason it's still there is that I haven't done a road trip in a couple of years. I'll be looking for custom foam soon.

Never used memory foam, but I had my B12 seat redone by a guy in Florida.  He added some gel in there somewhere.  Definitely better than stock.

Thanks-I know them, Slightly concerned as they recycle old memory foam mattresses to  make their seats.

I'll toss in a different option.  My Little Red Ninja (I believe that she's called a 2007 ER-6F in the UK) had what I felt was a so-so stock seat, and atrocious suspension.  I upgraded the front and rear suspension and found the stock seat became very comfortable thereafter.  Like IBA comfortable.  Maybe its your suspension that needs sorting out?

it does, that is true. the rear shock is not wonderful.

Maybe try a DIY? What's the worst that could happen? Tip: put the foam in the freezer over night and use an electric carving knife to get the initial shape. Used closed cell foam. Pick the durometer you think will work best.

I spent money on beads, gel pads, sheep skins, air-hawk bladders, Sgts branded after market, Corbin after market, and others. In my long effort to avoid the cost of a custom Russell seat, I spent far more than I would have if I'd done it right to begin with. So, for my last bike, I finally broke down and got a Russell Day-Long. WOW! First go-to on this bike was the Russell. It took me a lot of money and time trying to save money and with unsuccessful (as well as abysmal) results.

I try to explain how spending a little right away can save time and money (and be a better solution) if you cut to the chase and get a Russell but people are what they are and want to fail like I did on their own terms.

You can’t see it when you’re sitting on it.  I’ve tried most of the name brands like Russell, Mayer, sergeant and Corbin.  Gimme da Corbin every time.  Four seats in and I’ll do the fifth when the next bike gets bought.

The best seats I've had are Russell's. They're spendy and ugly as a mud fence but if you want your backside cosseted in a loving gentle embrace while you ride there's none better.

But as you say, far too ugly for an Italian bike.
