I missed Deerwalk - something about the name put me off - no, I caught your voicemail too late and went over 16. I took this backroad through St. Mary's that would put 12 O'clock Knob road to shame, so I had some fun. NEXT YEAR!

Berkeley Castle is for sale. A cool $1mm+ collectively and we can ride MD 9 up and down back and forth all day long at our next meet.
Click the link and take a virtual tour. I always wondered what that place looked like inside. It always looked vacant and I assumed it was a wreak. Apparently not.
This view on MD 9 (right after a run up a superb twisty piece) has always been one of my favorites.

loginBreakfast Friday morning was a treat, Oatmeal Crunch Bannana Dream French Toast, but I think the French designation was a misnomer. This is classic West Viginia eats. And of course, being West Virginia, it clouded up during breakfast. It was such a light misty drizzle, I wasn’t going to put my rain gear on, but a wave of common sense overwhelmed me and good thing too. Within an hour we were riding in a heavy downpour. We were riding in West Virginia, of course.

loginThe comic relief of the morning – from where I was sitting – came as we were riding through Philippi. A dump truck coming the other way ran through a deep puddle and threw a wave over the top of Smoker. For a scary moment, it looked like he was riding the curl on the North Shore of Hawaii, but fortunately, it didn't wipe him out.
I don’t know if anyone noticed while we were riding, but our 3 bikes together were red, white and blue.

loginNext morning started out fine with some great roller-coaster twisties. Bill’s tire went flat during lunch, and you all know how that turned out. It was a tube tire and we could not find the puncture point. Fix-a-flat failed. I suspect the tube might have stretched and tore during that spirited ride up 556, but regardless of how it happened, that tire was dead flat. The ride back to the motel was somber and slow, so slow I almost felt like it was a funeral procession, and almost got passed by 2 guys on a Triumph.
174 miles for the day.

loginThe ride home on Sunday was uneventful. Only made 4 or 5 short stops. The stock seat on the Versys is amazingly comfortable, although my @ss was sore for a few days afterward. Passed a pretty scene in New Bloomfield. 467 miles in 10.5 hours on 2-lane except for that western stretch of US 50.
