Moving at the end of March to a bigger, slightly cheaper place, nestled back in the woods in the artists' community of Arden, in the outskirts of Wilmington. Went over yesterday to sign the lease (Liz's dad fronted us the deposit money - that guy is awesome). Anyway, the landlord has this in his garage... for sale, as they can't take it with them. I'm trying to work a deal where we pay a little more rent and it stays with me. He's amenable but not sure yet. He's going to keep it for sale for the next few weeks, and if a cash offer comes in, he'll take it. I may or may not end up with this. I've wanted one of these for as long as I've been driving, and as I'll be living 5 minutes from work, it's not like i have to really rely on the thing (which is good).

*this isn't the actual car, but it's the same color and almost as nice condition.

My GF has been looking for a convertible and wants something unique. She keeps seeing MG's, Triumph's, etc. I keep trying to talk her into a Miata because I dont want to be working on it all the time nor having to rescue her on the side of the road. lol

Long term, I'd probably put a small block chevy in it. :-)

The thing is, I don't even like Miata's, but I like relaibility and don't have time to wrench on another vehicle.

Here's an idea that will guarantee you a happier outcome: Once every couple of months someone from the board who lives in the region will walk up to you, kick you in the nads and take all the money in your wallet before dropping you off in some dark and shitty location. In the rain. See, it's the experience of owning a British sports car without having to actually own the fucking thing.

Seriously though. That in line 6 is a great little engine and it's as reliable as a stone axe if it was well maintained. You also have the advantage of having this place practically in your back yard.

Nothing is as reliable and easy as a SBC. There are a bunch of 924, 944, & 951 Porsche's running around with a SBC in them.

I too have lusted after the TR6 for many a year and I don't even like cars.
A real cool opportunity the likes of which fall into your lap once in a lifetime.

Yeah, I never understood the "it's easier to go auto"... especially all the gear boxes of the day were case-mounted shifters and 5 minutes with a welder and bammo... instant clutch pedal. Cable conversions were all the rage and Muncie 21 and 23 rock crushers were EVERYWHERE.

I kinda semi-specialized in doing V8 conversions on Vegas and Monzas there for a while... even did a couple of Pintos.

Good times... times were good. I enjoyed taking money from people with more money than brains.

I've almost bought several Spitfires and a TR6 over the past 20 years. Everyone of them had either a bent frame or more rust than I was willing to deal with. I'm always looking for the right car at the right price. It might happen some day.
