Doesn't make much difference to me. The sum total of my prep was to throw my snow pants and gloves in the back of the car.

Listening to NPR this AM on the way in, apparently the automated arms that block the HOV lanes on 66 didn't raise because they were frozen or something. This of course resulted in a huge back up in very little time.
I'm guess this made the cold a very big deal for a lot of people who were sitting in traffic that usually wouldn't. I also heard of several watermain "issues" in DC that were causing some delays.

I did feel a little more guilt for the people stopped on the side of the road for whatever reason hoping they had the wherewithall to stay alive.

This Climate change, we gotta do something! talk is all just re-arranging the chairs on the Titanic. The problem isn't burning fossil fuels or deforestation, blah blah blah...

Those are just symptoms of the problem. The problem? Humans are overpopulating their environment and consuming all resources. There is no cure for this except decreasing human populations to a sustainable level. And by sustainable, I mean a level the humans on the individual basis will accept.

Until we get that under control, all these other actions just postpone the end point by a few decades maybe a century or two.

Go back to worrying about CO2 levels.

Last week there was a potential for flurries for tomorrow, yesterday a chance of snow, last night 2 to 4, this morning 5+, just now watch turned to warning and they're at 6 to 8 w/ potential for 10+ in the highlands.

I love snow. But we're going to go from mid to high 40s today back down to below zero wind chills with the snow tomorrow. Good times.

How or why do the school authority decide to close in your parts?
Up here, it's the transportation manager for school board that decides if they open or not. It's done before 6 AM, based on road conditions and weather forecast. Basically, the question is will they be able to pick the kids up and drive them back after school. Cold weather rarely affects the decision. Just bundle your kids up, they'll be fine.
