Calgary Motorcycle Show - January 10th to 12th

Who's going?

We have free tickets again, so we'll be there for a bit on Saturday to see if there are any new models worth drooling on.  Nothing we've seen lately from any of the manufacturers really piques our interest, but sitting on bikes is always more interesting that looking at snow!

Calgary Motorcycle Show 2014

The motorcycle show was kind of ho-hum again this year.  Not much new.  Everyone seems to still have a thing for big poser bikes.  But it's a good short escape from winter.  Here are some pictures.

Of course KLR Chickie had to check out the new KLR.  (feels like the old KLR with a dress-up kit)

Sliders stock on the new Ninja 1000.  Neat!

Remote preload adjust for rear suspension.  Finally someone is coming back with a true sport-touring bike!

One of the few bikes not completely changed (other than cruisers) is the ZX6R.  Still a basic well appointed sport bike.

Kawi usually has some neat paint schemes on their cruisers, especially considering these are stock units, not customs.

Lots of pretty chrome in many booths.  Some of them make you want a cruiser except that they'd need polishing.

The Triumph Rocket III with a 3-cylinder with a displacement of 2300cc

Triumph definitely has the most retro line.  This looks like fun.

They even brought back the Triumph scrambler.  Unfortunately it's a heavy pig based upon an antiquated design.  It looks neat but if I'm on a bike that has knobbies I want it to weigh a lot less.

The stunt show this year was better than ever.  The highlight was when two riders crashed into each other while dancing in a wheelie.

Looks like Yamaha thinks Honda knows where it's at.  They're starting to show snow blowers and generators at the bike show!

Has Honda actually come out with a new bike??? Don't remember seeing cruisers here before.

Honda is also getting into the 'Adventure' bike game with the NC500 and NC700.  The neat thing about them is they have a 17" front wheel so you can put on useful rubber instead of useless 50/50 etc.

Too many quads at a 'Motorocycle' show.  This one had some neat tires though.

The KTM 690 Enduro looks like quite an interesting bike.  Give it an appropriate set of wheels and it would make a great street-tartd.

Un moto malo!
Lots of customs with chrome and pretty paint jobs.  Some of them we couldn't event get close enough to get a picture of.

Anyone remember the days when the minimum required displacement didn't start at over a litre?

One day someone told me that a 650 wasn't big enough for the highway.  I offered that they could come riding and try to keep up while I scraped pegs on the KLR.  I'm still waiting for them to show…

That's it folks.  Now back to your regularly scheduled hibernation.

Thanks for the write up and pics. I was to the Detriot Motorcycle show and that was a waste of time.  I have been to the auto show in Detriot and kind of thought it might be that good.  Lunch after the show was the best part of the day! ;D

 I am going to the "Manufactures" Motorcycle show in Toronto next month. Hopefully that will be worth the time.
