Dammit. Not 5 days after Xmas and my phone/lifeline/precious decided to quit answering my commands. Works just fine, except for the little detail of the touch screen declining to function. Research says that the 'digitizer' has gone bad (and isn't terribly abnormal),  and a repair kit available via eBay for 15-35 bucks.

Anyone here ever performed this kind of surgery? I'm not inept, and its broken now so its not like I can make it not work more,  Brut I've never gone this deep in micro-electronics. I'd also have to purchase at least 2 tiny torx drivers just to do the repair per online instructions. I'm just considering buying a used phone off craigslist instead of messing with it just for the cost/frustration minimization...

For completeness sake,  busted unit is a Motorola Droid4 w/slideout keyboard. 9 months left before upgrade eligible via Verizon. I've liked the phone ok, but its more of a tool than a status symbol. I'm more worried about cost and time without communications.

I have bought many phones of craigslist....just get one that works and had a clean esn and you'll be good to go

If you go the repair route...
1) YouTube often has good repair vids for the exact phone and issue you're having. Search & review some vids before deciding to repair.
2) Guitar picks (I believe you have a selection) of various thicknesses are good for prying apart cases w/o damage.

Depending on the phone it's pretty straight forward.  It may help to have a heat gun on hand since most things are glued together these days. Spudgers are also handy.

The new piece will have the adhesive on it.

I did a screen/digitizer replacement on an IPhone 4S

Following the YouTube tutorial and having an ice cube tray for the various screws was the ticket.

A  bright desk lamp and my trusty spectacles helped too.

I watched the video right through 1x, then began again, pausing at the various steps while I competed them, then resume.

Order the little tool kit with the parts.
