 The first video is Glendora Mtn. Rd. riding west from Mt. Baldy Village. It's a very narrow twisty road chock full of debris, blind curves, and douchebags coming at you on your side. Those that don't respect that, and outride their sight lines do so at their own peril.

 The second video is just pathetic.

looks to me like the Ducati was using the full width of the road prior to the crash. Can't see lane position where the two bikes made contact, but at that speed he had no ability to avoid even if he was over to the right.

to you and I, yes. to the courts no. a good lawyer can argue that at the high speeds of the other rider our man in the other lane could not reasonably expect him to arrive at that point before he moved into his own lane.  I agree with you, just speaking from experience. a left turner is not at fault if the approaching vehicle is speeding for the same reason.

haven't been to court on one of these, have you?  you may be right on the accident in the video but against a left turner you have no defense if you are speeding.  anyhow we will just have to agree to disagree..

Fair enough.
BTW we have no-fault up here. The worst that can happen is the left turner gets cited. About $250. No one goes to court for traffic incidents.

Did that road once and it was the ONLY time in my life I missed having a head on by less than two feet. I was on my concours taking it easy (son on back), dickhead on GSXR hauling ass, comes around a blind corner on my side.  I quick corrected to the inside as he zoomed by almost clipping my left mirror.  He crashed but was OK......

On the first vid, its both their fault for being up there. Seriously its less than a one lane road with no shoulder. Been there, done that, f-that. Having said that it appears the impact was right where the guy filming stopped.

I guess I have to disagree. Width of roadway has nothing to do with it. Ride according to conditions and crap like that doesn't happen. I honestly can't tell if either rider was over center. But I can extrapolate from the squid riders previous corners that at least he was over center.

I guess I have to disagree. Width of roadway has nothing to do with it. Ride according to conditions and crap like that doesn't happen. I honestly can't tell if either rider was over center. But I can extrapolate from the squid riders previous corners that at least he was over center.

You need to look up the term squid.  It usually refers to a rider without gear, which the Ducati rider was not.  You say you can't tell where the crash occurred, yet you KNOW the sportbike was over the center.  :lol:  Nothing like some personal bias there.  I love listening to all the experts in this thread.  It's entertaining.  :D 

For the sake of accuracy I went back and reviewed the footage frame by frame and the bike traveling away from the cameraman (the Ducati) was on his side of the road.  The bike traveling towards the cameraman (the Harley) was left of center relative to his direction of travel.  But what the hell do I know?  I've only been a certified collision reconstructionist for most of my 18 years as a LEO.   :P

It doesn't matter who's at fault when you are on 2-wheels, whether or not you are speeding or over the center line makes no difference; guess who gets hurt?   No good came of that relationship.

Police do not determine fault.  That's up to the insurance companies.  If I was writing that crash, I'd have put the bike traveling towards the camera (the Harley) as Unit #1.  It's not universal, but usually who we put as #1 is who we believe to be the driver "at fault" and the other vehicle as Unit #2, #3, etc...   Many times both parties did something wrong (which is why we don't use the term accident anymore) and in those cases we try and determine the greater factor with direct causation.  In this case, regardless of how fast Unit #2 is traveling, there is no crash if Unit #1 does not commit a right of center violation.
