What's the main draw to Alaska?

Is it the Distance? The endurance of bike and rider? The supposed beauty? The what? What I ask, what is it.......

For a brief fleeting moment, back in 2006 when I started riding, I read all of the current ride report on St-n, advrider, blah, blah.... and I thought maybe.. And then my I researched, it just looked like......well..... not that awe inspiring. At least compared to the south west.

What made you, whoever made the journey, pick that place? And have you ever experienced anything else other than that and how did it compare?

Honest thread.  Really thinking about it or not.

Any info helps.

There's the destination and then the remoteness of the routes between "population" in Canada and "Alaska" (population of Fairbanks / Anchorage)

1) It's off of the beaten path (mostly)
2) Yes, It's far.
3) Yes, remote (getting there)
4) There's "it's different" from "`round here" (lower 48)
5) There are sections of stellar beauty - both on the way there and in Alaska
6) I'd do it again - whole-heartedly - and would likely do it again at the end of tourist season like last time (fewer people - more REMOTE!! and fewer bugs)

Beauty
The distance
Slightly more difficult ,fewer of everything although its much more civilized than 10 years ago.
Far fewer people .
Still a challenge depending on where you go there.

I was new to long-distance riding when I did it, so for me it was initially all about the distance. But then as I did it, I realized that it was the remoteness of the land and the beauty of seeing something unlike anything I had seen before.

In all honesty, it's one of the furthest places we can travel here in North America.  It's the journey, not the destination.  :)

 I just got back from the tip of the Baja peninsula. If you're looking for a remote, desolate, adventurous place to ride, this is it.

Not on my bucket list. My dad did it 30 years ago. I'd rather traverse the perimeter of Australia. My Dad's best friend did it in the early 70's. On a /2. With a female on her own /2.
