Google does put an imagery date in Google Earth & Map which is a real good thing. Might want to see if image of the area you are looking at is pre- or post- flood.

Come to think of it, I'll be in Athens, OH the week before and Morgantown, WV the week after. Could be an opportunity for a week off to do some riding either side of Marlinton.

Primary and secondary roads get calcium chloride
or sodium chloride ( rock salt ).
Sometimes beet juice.
Tertiary roads get "Anti-skid". Think: tar and chip
seal without the tar.
Seeing how much they put down you'd think
they get it for free.
Takes a slew of heavy equipment to collect and
remove it in the spring.

The irony is the "anti-skid" might only work during the snow event. Then it becomes the source of the skid.

Every spring the culm banks in Scranton look a little shorter.

I think it's up to the local townships. Ours uses brine solution, which apparently melts metal as well. (No ammonium Cl in there, I was misinformed.). But when there's freezing rain in the forecast, they switch to cinders.

We were at Jefferson Pools in Hot Springs last September. The attendant told us that Omni Resorts planned on working on the Jefferson Pools this winter. It is quaint and beautiful but looking tired. Baths are $17.00 per hour.

I have been eyeing this thread for a while now. Not 100% committed but very interested in attending. Vacation time is not an issue. I am on a permanent vacation.

An early May ride is early for me because of where I am. In a normal year, my riding season starts at the end of April when we get enough rain to wash away all the road salt. There has been years when my first ride was in May.

This year I'll need some time to do a proper break in of the new bike before I venture on a longer ride.

Google Maps is telling me that the fastest route is 18 h 29 min. I can do that in two days but would probably take three and leave after the sun warms up the air on the first day.

I haven't been to WV since riding through on my way to Arkansas and the Ozarks in 2012. Time flies when you're having fun.

I just booked. Mrs. Smoker will be joining me, and I have road tires on the Tenere at the moment so it'll (probably) be all tarmac for me. I also have a friend and his Mrs. coming but they are staying at the Old Clark Inn.
