Mrs. Smoker decided to sit this one out. Cold rain is not her idea of a good time. Therefore I'll be rolling on Thursday with Slayman & Co.

The good news...more room for beer.

Looks like a good start. Are there any plans already for supper Fri or Sat. I'm prob. rolling in after 5 on Fri. Was thinking about hitting the Dirt Bean but they close at 8 so probably will go before checking in. But I don't wanna duplicate on Sat. That said is there a decent place to buy good beer nearby or should I pack some?

The gas station next to the motel might have Heineken or similar, but don't hold your breath. There is a liquor store in Marlinton that has (in the past anyway) had a nice selection of micros and whatnot.

Looks like both my brother and my friend Tim are making the same call. I saw 80% chance of rain for the whole reasonable area while looking last night. Making the final determination tomorrow afternoon, I guess. I'm hoping it'll clear out.

Points to the east/southeast (Goshen, Warm Springs, Buchanan) are claiming 20-30% chance of showers on Saturday. Sunday looks dry as well. Chance of wetness leaving and returning to Marlinton on Saturday, but I'll take that bet...

If this was in my back yard, I could wait longer to decide on account of the weather forecast but being so far away I have to leave tomorrow and hope for the best. This being a 10-11 day trip for me I am expecting some rain at some point.

Yeah, I think I'm in regardless, it's just whether I'm meeting them and riding together, or buzzing down solo, which if I do that and the weather is crappy, I'll just do more of it on the highway to get there in good time on Friday. :\

If my friends and I stick to the Friday plan, we have a day of just under 300 miles in the twisties before getting to Marlinton. I don't imagine we'll be there much before 5 if we do.

RE: Dinner

I'm thinking of hitting the Fiddlehead on Friday on my way south at the intersection of 219 and 66 (20 twisty minutes north of the hotel). On the other hand, heading into Marlinton to the Greenbier positions one nicely for stopping at the liquor store on the way back to the motel.

5 days of riding in the rain isn't as appealing as it was in my younger years when the end of the day brought the possibility of getting laid or drunk.
Now I can't handle any of that shit. But so far I can still find the shift lever. (It's the one on the right. Right? )

Same thing is happening to an FJR meet in Marietta. Ppl bailing in droves. I'm out of it not because of rain or cool temps (I like those!) but because I'm right at the tail end of a flu. I just don't have the stamina right now for a 13hr ride.

Problem is Sat looks cloudy, cold and wet and Sunday is only 70% better. Who wants to spend a day in the rain for a cold and wet weekend? Besides, the weather is so unpredictable down there Sat and Sunday could get worse. That's happened to us before. Of course, it's also gotten better. Wouldn't seem as big a risk if I was leaving on a sunny day.

Prolly going to cancel out myself. Can always ride down Saturday if there's big improvement.

Or we could just pick another weekend end of May instead.

The inch of snow and all the ice the last time I was down there, when it was SUPPOSED to be "cool and sunny" was enough to convince me if it's that iffy already, meh...

Looks like I'm going to be down there the weekend of Memorial Day - Liz will have graduated, her schedule opens way up, we don't have kids that weekend, and having that Monday off she emailed me and said "we're going riding that weekend. Clear it."

So, that's likely where we're going.

Liz has a marathon of school work this weekend on her final project, so I'm largely going to just be in the way if I'm here. I'm happy to head North and meet up somewhere to grab a lunch and beer, and grab that Ducati stuff from you, if you choose not to go.

Yup. That would have been the big year when weather was perfect and like 120 bikes showed up. Good times...

We also had some very wet Burger Runs. It rains a lot in the spring. Go figure.

At this point I'm still in. Looks like I can thread the needle for a mostly dry Friday afternoon ride down. Hoping most of Saturday will be dry once clear of Marlinton. Sunday looks to be mostly dry too. My ride down and back would be solo. It'd be nice to have people to hang with Friday and Saturday nights at MMI even if I do my Sat ride solo (company always welcome) as well.

The four of us are in Stephens City VA. It is raining now but we got in before it started.

It looks like we are going to modify the planned route for tomorrow but we are still planning to be in Marlinton tomorrow night. We will probably leave later in the morning and shorten the route.
