This doesn't qualify for Guns only forum. :bigsmile:

So here's the thing, I'm looking for a good economy crossbow.  It doesn't have to be the end all be all, but I'm looking for a good reliable crossbow.  There are very few decent reviews of these things on the internet (most look to be on commercial sites selling stuff).

Currently I'm looking at Carbon Express Covert CX2  It's on the top end price wise at $599.

Dicks has a couple for sale in the $299-499 range,  Barnett and SA Sports (Empire Dragon).

What does the collective think?

What do you plan to do with it? If you just want it for the cool factor and screwing around at the range a lower price one is probably going to be fine. If you are disabled and can use it for hunting, or want to use it for competition, you may want to look at the higher end models. Of course if money is no object the more you spend the more impressive it should be?

Good luck and have fun. If you happen to be out shooting a good thing to do with rifle shooters who don't understand ballistics is challenge them to shoot through a bucket of sand. gets the confused look everytime ;)

Deer hunting.  Maryland no longer requires disability to use crossbow in bow season.  We have such a deer problem, they're doing whatever they can to cull the herd.

sounds fun! you may want to spend a little extra then. If it is anything like here a couple deer wounded by crossbows wandering the burbs will put an end to the privilege. have fun!

MD has a hunting problem.  Especially the center part.  They close off public areas to hunting then bring in sharpshooters to hunt them in the middle of the night and other hair-brained schemes.

Maryland has a weapons problem.  They want to lead California, New York, etc in being the most "proactive" in controlling firearms and who can have them.  Hence, there are very few places to purchase guns/ammo.  Laws regarding use of weapons recreationally are onerous so most who enjoy shooting move out of state if possible.

folks in the next town over actually paid to have a couple of deer tranqed, and slung out under helicopters . . . . then they got the bill . . . . .sigh . . . . . .

We had two bags of grass, 75 pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers... Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls. Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.
