We try to move it around. We were in Staunton last year and Hawks Nest WV the year before. Perhaps Buena Vista next year? I don't recall any lodging in Buena Vista, there are options in Lexington.

EDIT, the Buena Visa Inn looks promising (for a future event)

It's my favorite place to stay when I'm riding down there. Lots of good roads close by. They have a cheap ass motel there (my kinda place), and there are other options as you've noticed.

FYI for future gatherings.

The Buena Vista Hotel or the Budget Inn (what ever they are calling it this week ) is a good place and if you want to camp the city owned Maury Park has camping w / showers, laundry ect...

I like Canaan Valley. Course, I liked Staunto too, Were some nice pubs in walking distance. It's got Canaan Valley beat on that. When we going back to Marietta? It's hard to beat that.

I spent some time yesterday getting my Wee roadworthy. Ibsprayed some gunk on the chain, lubed the cables and made sure I knew where the rain cover for the tank bag was stored. Looks like I'll need it.

Here is this mornings outlook - not too bad - looks like we are going to ride through some showers on the way down Friday. Hopefully it won't linger through Saturday. As usual, it will be nice on Sunday for the ride home.

Hey Doug - just wondering what is the possibility of shifting this meet to Marietta - no just kidding.
A little rain doesn't bother me. I've kinda gotten used to it by now.
Besides, it can all change by Friday.
(I am thinking about riding the Connie instead of my Wee. That big faring has its +s).

At least it won't be a win your dolphin meet as some have been in the past. I think R Doug would be more uncomfortable in pure sunshine than a tad -o-rain.Hope it dries out for all of you.But hitting spotty stuff isn't always so bad IMHO.

I was going to use your route - the one from 2011 with a few changes - mix of paved and groomed dirt roads.

Going over at Bass Pro, that gave me an idea - pontoon side cases for your KTM. Just the thing for wet weather!

With all of the funky weather patterns going on (stalled front before a low pressure system), a lot can change between now and Saturday. But, for the moment, the National Weather Service's forecast is as follows for Saturday:

Showers likely, mainly between 11am and noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 56. Chance of precipitation is 60%

An hour of showers? Meh.

The forecast has improved a bit. Rides heading south will still experience better weather.

GF and I still thinking about heading to Buena Vista. It's going to be about 20 degrees warmer there too. We've been planning this for a long time and don't wish is get rained out. I have a choice of gear for various weather conditions. Her, not so much.

I've been struggling with the decision, but from what I see forecast is just getting worse. Current on accuweather for Saturday:

Scattered t-storms in the morning becoming more widespread in the afternoon. Chance of rain 90%. High 56. Winds 15-25.

And getting there Thu and Fri not looking much better.

I certainly understand why anyone would bail. I'm in heck or high water. I need out o. The bike. Riding in crappy weather better than most things. And, being able to hang out with some if you in the evening is a pure bonus.
