For someone who hates group rides, I'm really looking forward to this trip. Really helps that it's only about 2 hours from me and my total commitment for this trip will be about 100 bucks.

For comparison sake, here's the last thing we rode off-road. I'm guessing the fire roads won't have too much of this type stuff. I wish the guy who did this video would have gone about 2 minutes farther to the top and down the other side. That's where it gets rocky and fun.

I'd be comfortable with 35-45 on fire roads, but Wee has no bash plate, so I will be taking it easy and am definitely out on the rougher sections. As I recall. there's plenty on nice 2-track going back into Dolly Sods. Plus I've always wanted to ride Williams River Rd. Either one of those options would be a nice run down 219 and back up 20. I will be taking a lower stress alternative.

Not that it matters this far out, but the long term doesn't look like shite to me for Davis, WV.

I do know that this Saturday looks to be very nice and I'm going to break in the fresh oil change on an all-day romp somewhere sunny and dry.

Work is not going to eat the Spring Thing weekend. Chris and I will be there doing a street ride as he will be on the Speed Triple and I will be on the 1190 (w/ TA2). The 530 engine is showing up today and hopefully the suspension is rebuilt by Friday, but there are simply not enough hours to put it back together, break it in, and do a worthy shakedown ride or two while working all this stupid OT.

I think I have a plan that offers a nice mix of twisty state highways and scenic back roads with questionable pavement quality:

Friday: Meet Chris in Breezewood about noon, eat lunch, ride to CVR via 26, 144, Oldtown Low Water Bridge, 50w, 42s, 33w (via Seneca Rocks), 32n

Saturday: Twisty loop to the southeast featuring 33 (Spruce Knob then on to WV/VA border), CR-21, 250, 678, 39, more 250, 219 Elkins to Thomas via Parsons, Purple Fiddle?, 32s

Sunday: Twisty goodness to the west: 33w, 151, 20 south, 15 west, short bit of 79 south, 16 north, 74, 18, 7 (to Hundred), 69/18 to Waynesburg, 19 n to WashPa, 136 to home.

Chris is still rebuilding his confidence after last years mishap, so the pace will be a little more relaxed than usual. Willing to have a few people tag along on Saturday.

Looking at some forecasts not too far south, such as Franklin, WV and Buena Vista, VA, the forecasts are better. Significantly better. Obviously, rides heading south will enjoy much better weather than Davis and northward.
