To my mind, if the NFL doesn't make this extremely painful for the Steelers, then others will use the same tactic (cash for a chance at a win). I don't think the fine will be the end of this story.

Near the end of the game with the Ravens (Ravens leading by just 2), Jacoby Jones was running back a kick off, for what appeared to be a touchdown. The 9 points would have iced the win for Baltimore.

As Jones ran along the sidelines, Tomlin sauntered out on to the field (by only a few inches) but caused Jones to alter his path (and possibly his speed). No one else was standing around him, it was him alone on the white line and onto the field.

The Ravens won anyway, but it the Steelers had a chance at the very end.

Scratch's gif is Tomlin's reaction right after it happened (he didn't even draw a penalty---the NFL is going to take action against the refs too).

Tomlin is a good guy/coach. He accepted whatever consequence that came his way and apologized.

If they (nfl) mess with the draft picks, that's bullshit!

Just did some calculations:

Pittsburgh Stealers 6 SB/ 80 years in existence = .075 SB/year

Baltimore Ravens 2 SB/ 17 years in existence = .118 SB/year

Considering the Ravens 1998 Fan and Media Guide referred to longtime staffers as having worked for "The Modell organization" before the Ravens were created in 1996, I'd say the Ravens' history goes back to the early 50s.

I was born near Cleveland and grew out south of Pittsburgh. I've been a Steelers fan since the Steel Curtin which played during the time of my Pop Warner days. I've always loved the Steelers and disliked the Browns now Ravens. Rivalries are good fun!

I agree. There’s a difference between a new franchise and a team that has moved IMO. The Panthers are a new team. The Ravens started out as the closed down Browns the day the Mayflower trucks rolled into Baltimore.

I remember the day clearly, it was called “The Move.”

Many of my co-workers in Ohio refuse to call them the Ravens when the Browns or Bengals play Baltimore. They use terms like "the other team" or "Modell's traitors". Kinda funny in a way.

As for me, my family moved to Northern, WV when I was young and we were close enough to Pittsburgh to be in their TV market. I grew up watching the Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins. So, I feel for the Ravens about the same way they feel for the Steelers.

Truth time:

At the time when Baltimore was in the running for an expansion team (which they didn't get), I had put several thousand $$$ in deposit for season tickets. When Modell up and moved the Browns (the same way the Colts moved out of town), I couldn't in good conscience buy tickets to the team moved in from Cleveland. It was as much about showing my kids that sometimes you have to take a moral stance, even if it won't have a real impact.

NFL owners, by and large, are douchebags.

Now: Let's see them damn Steelers take a hit!

The Ravens originally took their prior history with them as did the Titans. When the NFL put an expansion team in Cleveland it was named the Browns and the agreement with the league gave them the old history, essentially making the Ravens an expansion team with year 1 being their first in Baltimore.

It's kind of funny how things go though. I cannot and will not cheer for Baltimore. I probably would be disowned from the city if I ever cheered for the Ravens, however, most Steeler fans actually feel for the Browns. It was always a close rivalry between us and them, and especially fun due to proximity but we hated that Modell took their team away and moved it to Baltimore. We couldn't even imagine losing a team.

The Pirates went two decades without a winning season, in fact, I was in 6th grade the last time it happened but we still loved our Buccos!

Teams moving isn't anything new. The Cardnials were in Chicago before St. Louis and then Phoenix, but I agree it sucks. The whole Ravens/Browns issue was because the NFL tried to get cute in 1992. Baltimore and St. Louis were runaway favorites for expansion yet they put the teams in Jacksonville and Charlotte instead. Shortly after the Browns head to Baltimore and the Rams go to St. Louis.
