In Alberta, if you buy a vehicle older than 10 years, you can take it to a licensed mechanic of your choosing to get an inspection done, which you have to present to your insurance company before they will issue a policy.
There are no annual inspections.
And, as long as you keep that 10+ year old vehicle perpetually insured, you do not need another inspection.
Let the insurance lapse, even for a day, and you need another inspection.
Makes no sense to me.
