loginThe gold one is a limited edition from Cabela's- Buck's Special 119 with Cocobolo wood grip and Titanium Nitride coating. Free lifetime sharpening- I send it there, they cover shipping back. I shot you not- this is far and away the sharpest knife I have ever handled. I send it out every 2-3 years, in which time it has gutted and cut the sternum of 4-8 deer. I mean it's crazy sharp- shaving is not an issue. Amazing for a knife of that size.
The second is my Schrade Old Timer given to me by my grandpa when I turned 10. That's my EDC. Carbon steel- not stainless- meaning I can also get a wicked sharp edge on it, and it holds. The downside is that it's carbon steel, so it needs some special care. I use the drop-point blade for the every day stuff and the other two blades for careful sharp work. I love my knives razor sharp. I also have a few other Bucks and Gerbers in the truck and van, hunting jacket, etc. All stainless. They mostly serve various duties as needed. The only knife I see myself buying yet is a good quality steel automatic. Otherwise I'm really set for knives. For me my knives are simply tools, and I pretty much have all the bases covered- I'm not a collector, just a user.
I also have a couple machetes. I used them for brush clearing and turtle head removal (for butchering). My in-laws gave me a Bear Grylls Gerber machete for Christmas a couple years ago- at first I thought it was some cheap POS with his name on it, but it actually has a good, heavy blade and rides with me in the truck for brush-clearing and such. Works well. I also have a few cheapies and I throw in the duck boat for cutting cover-brush. None of them are anything special.
I think that covers it.
Edited to add:
I also have a Leatherman Wave that goes with me anytime I am not in school or dressed up. No pics needed- you know what they look like. The thing is awesome- one of the handiest tools ever.
What are you all using for sharpening? For my knives (other than the special edition Buck) I have a Lansky clamp, rod, and stone system. It works well. I'll sit on the couch, watch TV, and sharpen knives when they need it. The machetes get a file, of course. No need for razor sharpness on those beasts.
