Valve guide seals XR400

My xr puffs a bit of smoke on start up and cracking the throttle. Wisdom says its a common known issue of bad valve guide seals.

Parts are cheap about $25 for the seals and gaskets.  But I've never removed valves nor have a valve spring tool.

Anyone ever do this before?  Is it easy and or worthwhile?  Looking for thoughts before buying parts and tools

BTW it doesn't use any noticeable oil between changes so it isn't a serious issue yet.

Once the head is off changing the seals is a rather simple job. Just don't loose the keepers BTDT.

Sears sells a cheap valve spring compressor (sort of like a large C clamp)

Other option is to bring the head to a local machine shop (with the seals)  Be cool with them and they might do it for after work beer money.

Buddy of mine has a compression leakdown test tool that can hold psi in the cylinder to keep valves in place so the head doesn't need to come off.

Should make it easier no?
